Apparently the makers of Kaletra want to use a quote from my interview about lipoatrophy in The Body in their advertising. They are giving me $150, which I can actually use right now since I am on FMLA caring for my dying mom. Here are my money making words of wisdom:
“There were certain people who I avoided seeing because they hadn’t seen me in a while and I didn’t want them to see me looking bad, and I didn’t want the questions associated with it. I think that I, kind of without knowing it, stopped looking people in the eye.... This, of course, didn’t help my self-esteem.”

Now if I can jump on the American bandwagon and spin this into my own reality TV show! ;D

Hey Ford,
First of all, I'm very sorry to hear about your mother. I can't imagine what you must be going through. I wish you all the best, as I'm sure do all of the members here on aidsmeds.
I am curious, though, about why Kaletra wants to use your statement. You don't say anything about Kaletra, or any antiretroviral drug. Are they planning on claiming that their drug doesn't cause lipo or something? Like I said, just curious . . .

It is a pamplet for doctors recommending use of Kaletra because it has a lower incidence of lipoatrophy. It explains what lipoatrophy is and how it affects people's self-esteem, can affect privacy issues, etc.

Hey Ford good for you , you are the first person I ever heard of who got paid for a LIPO endorsement/commercial....
Hope the issues with your Mom aren't too overwhelming.....take care of yourself

Didn't realize that Kaletra had a lower incidence of lipoatrophy. I've heard of a lot of people experiencing fat changes with it, but maybe that was fat gain in the abdomen.

Hey Ford,
Congrats on them using your quote in their pamphlet.
I am sorry to hear about your mom.

Good for you, Ford. I think we should be cashing in on what this disease (and the meds) do to us.
Take care of yourself while taking care of your mum. I took care of my mum during her last days, and it can be extremely emotional and taxing physically. Not that I would ever trade that experience.
