Title: Hello guys. Any advise?
Post by: Marco77 on January 11, 2013, 03:55:37 pm
Hello,
I had a sexual contact with a sex worker and I am worried because I used a condom but I had shaved my pubic region 5 hours before sex and I am afraid some vaginal fluid would have come t contact with the razor nicks. My testing results are as below: 22 days ELISA: Negative 25 days HIV RNA PCR: undetectable for both hiv-1 and hiv-2 58 days ELISA: Weak positive (1.1) and using the same sample the Inno Lia immunoassay and the dot blot were completely Negative. Can you please give me your opinion? I am a student and My life has been mesirable since then :( ... Thank you for your kind answers

Marco,

You do not have hiv and you never had a risk in the first place. Getting vaginal fluids on an area where you shaved does not constitute a risk.

Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse where the virus never leaves the confines of the two bodies.

Once outside the body, small changes in temperature, and pH and moisture levels all quickly damage hiv and render it unable to infect. For this reason, you're not going to become infected from getting vaginal fluids where you shaved.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST FOR HIV SPECIFICALLY OVER THIS NO RISK SITUATION, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

You do not need further hiv testing at this time. You are conclusively hiv negative.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Dear Ann,

Thank you for your reply. You really help. I want to be honest. this was my third time having sex in my life and I was very anxious and very sad for a couple of reasons. First because I had sex with a sex worker, something that I never wanted to make but something wrong was going with me then. Second I was afraid that at the age of 21 and only from 3 sexual contacts I would contract hiv. I have always been looking for a brightfuture for myself and was realky stressed from what happened. Third, believe it or not , I lived a nightmare when the not very smart doctor told me on phone that I was borderline positive in ELISA and I had to wait 24 hours before my other tests showed negative. since then I try everyday to get over it but I cannot. Even though my friends were beside me and tried to reassure me, but your answer helped way more since it seems you know more stuff than my friends who never got involved in this. I will try to move on and know that yiu have helped too much. keep the good work you all are amazing :)

one last question. what do you think about the RNA PCR test?. how accurate isnt generally? thats just for more information since I completely understood you answer of no risk :) ! and also, the window period. are 58 days goid enough for the essays to give a true negative result?

Thank you very mucjph again :)

Marco,

The PCR tests are not meant to be used for diagnostic purposes.

What's important where you are concerned is:

1. You did NOT have a risk for hiv infection.

2. You have tested conclusively negative.

You do NOT have hiv!

Thank you again. your answer helped a lot :) I will go back to my normal life I don't wanna get caught in this vagous cycle of infected-not-infected. and I wish sometime we will find a way to help those who were victims of this virus. Hope is the important thing! and please keep reassurng people because those who think they are infected are very much concerned that theystart to think out of logic.

Regards, :)

I had a sexual exposure with a CSW. the confusion in my mind is that, I had shaved 5 hours before sex and some vaginal fluids came to my shaved pubic area where I possibly had cuts. Even though I asked before and got an answer that the virus does not infect you with this manner, I still read in an article in this site that the virus can enter through cuts and sores! the faginal fluids came directly from her vagina to my shaved skin, isn't this the same?

Thank you,

First off, please leave ALL your comments in your original thread. That is part of the terms of service that you agreed to, and we enforce it strongly. I will request a moderator to merge this with your original thread.

 to your question:

It is absolutely not the same - also, the information you read is, at best, only marginally correct.

HIV has very specific connections sprinkled all over the outside shell of the virus, These connections target very specific cells - almost all of which are found in the vulnerable areas of the genital tract (the urethra in a male, the vagina in a female, the mucus membranes in the anus and rectum of both.)

HIV can also connect directly to certain white blood cells, but in order to do so it has to connect directly- meaning no exposure at ALL to environmental things like skin, scabs, healed or healing cuts and the like. Only the most extreme situations can overcome the body's rather thorough protection.

Example:

If you are a paramedic and you are at an accident site, assisting a person trapped in a car. If the person is HIV positive with a high viral load, and bleeding profusely, and if you tear a gash in your hand or arm while maneuvering around the wreckage of the car, and IF you then thrust your hand into or on the profusely bleeding wound without protection, then infection is possible.

That is why this sort of transmission is irrelevant to any non-healthcare professional. Te cuts and scrapes from shaving absolutely constitute ZERO threat for HIV. This is not only scientifically proven, but it is also statistically proven.

You have had absolutely and categorically no risk for HIV. None. Were there the faintest caveat to the condom issue, we would have issued that caveat on these forums. You understand that you are not nearly the only person who "manscapes" and then has sex, of course. We encounter this question very frequently. I hope my response has been of some help.

Dear jkinatl2,

I just needed an answer to clarify this thing for me because I had no idea about how exactly a transmission occurs. I was comparing my case to cases like needle and injection cuts that cause infection, and your answer helped me understand better.

Thank you very much and sorry for posting in a new post I just was so stressed.

So for heterosexual men the only sexual way through which the virus would enter the body during sex is the Urethra, is this right? because if so, I can finally put this issue behind me since I used a condom!!

Thank you very much for your help :)

With the exception of the “Am I Infected?” and “Off Topic” Forums, the AIDSmeds.com Forums are intended for people who have been diagnosed with HIV (or their loved ones/caregivers).  If you are questioning or unaware of your HIV status, please refrain from posting messages or questions in the Forums intended for HIV-positive people.

Please consider yourself warned!

You haven't had a risk for hiv infection, as you have been previously told. If you cannot bring yourself to believe us, go test and collect your negative result. As a sexually active person you should be testing at least once a year anyway.

Has anyone ever get infected with hiv after having protected sex when a condom did not break?

Thank you

No I did not test positive. And I tried to post in my original thread but I could not.
By the way.  Hd a second encounter after the one stated in my original thread. And my question is why does the CDC consider condoms effective but STILL do not eliminate the risk of hiv? As stated in their website.
Second question. Is a DUO test conclusive 46 days after the exposure? And why?

Please I have no money to give and I disperately need answers to my questions.
