steroid shot for allergic reation, my cd4 count and meds?
« on: February 11, 2017, 02:15:21 pm »
HI,

My dermatologist believes that the recently "itchy" rash that's developed on my face and neck is an allergic reaction to something. She gave me a steroid shot yesterday. Does anyone know if this will decrease my cd4 count and possibly work against my med's? Also, has anyone else developed this type of rash? I also have another rash on back and chest (pumps also appear on my shoulders and arms) that itches as well. But these look similar to foliculits (I googled photos). The derm believes this could possibly be fungal or yeast? I'm just concerned....been having the rash on chest and back for months. The bumps would go away and leave dark spots while new red ones appear, all the while itching badly. Been using OTC cortizoid cream and it offers little relief...

Hi

Yeah rash could have a number of causes so keep working with the doc.

I FF hate rashes, it is one the things in life i hate the most, its unconformable and looks bad. I feel for you right now, it does get better though.

Personally I have allergies however I found the rash from fungal overgrowth on the chest / back, nek and sometimes face was different and it took me months to shift last year. I had to treat the infected area with cream and I took so anti-fungal meds. (can recall the name) If it remains a problem go back to the doc.

No and she should have checked drug interactions before giving it to you. You can also check www.drugs.com interaction checker for interactions for peace of mind but do check with a pharmacist or doc if you remain worried.

Oh yeah and really word of warning don't overuse that stuff I mean it as its bad for the skin. See it can lead to thinning or weakening of the skin or other side effects and than you will have a whole new world of problems.

Thanks! I was reading online that Prednisone and steroid treatments for allergies work against your immune system can cause your cd4 levels to drop? In addition to the allergy steroid shot, she prescribed me Diflucan anti-fungal pills, fungal body wash to let sit on the rash prior to showering and a steroid cream for my face. I can someone deal with the chest and back (being that others can't see it) but my face...ugh! Been trying to find OTC things or anything to make it clear up sooner than later LOL

Yeah that all sounds very familiar to me.Creams, wash and meds against fungal overgrowth, worst was I could smell the wash afterwards no matter what for the entire day (no one I asked admitted it).

Look the CD4's thing is if i smoke a cigarette my CD4's will go up for a few hours, all this stuff if it does impact the count on a test is only temporarily and not a real impact. (Don't smoke BTW) Also things that claim to boost or lower immune system is not talking about CD4's and if they are its only a blip, so no real results or impact at all.

Look the problems with the steroid creams and OTC stuff is it helps local, quick and fast but does not treat or last and can cause problems for your skin.  Stick to what the doc gave you trust me on this one.

I did use "Miconazole nitrate" in the form of daktarin powder (not the cream) so after the wash I would wait and hour and sprinkle the powder on chest and back before getting dressed, it relieved the more visible nasty and any inching in a few days also kept the area dry and i think that also helps.

Anyhow hope you feel better soon.

Jim

These last couple of weeks I've developed the most unbearable itchybrash under my arms. I noticed that it's dark and apparently spreading. Not sure what it is but I'm very concerned. In addition to that, my stomach and sides itch unbearable but not rash really but darkening of skin and scratch marks from my scratching. My arms itch as well. Is this a side effect of the meds or something else? Will go back to the dermatologist this week or next week because seems I've been living there lately for one reason or another. Last visit she gave me fungal body wash because of the red itchy bumps on chest and back and it really didn't resolve the issue. Do I need to just prepare myself for a lifetime of dealing with itchy rashes and skin issues? Please give some advise! I was diagnosed in sep of 2016 and started triumeq in dec and thankful that my cd count as of Jan 2017 had risen from 29 to 233 BUT I'm already getting tired and discouraged

Dallas, asking us (non medicos) across the web about diagnoses is doomed to failure.

Keep working with your dermatologist. There are so many different things that could cause what you have described, they will work through the possibilities. It will take time and patience.

I really hope you get some relief soon.

I was on presista, truvada and norvir and had steroid injections for shoulder injury and the steroid made my numbers drop like a rock. So much so my dr thought the meds werent working anymore and switched me to odefsey. Ask your dr if the steroid will affect your current medication.
Also, maybe try coconut oil on the skin. I find that helped me alot with facial rashes and itch.
