Losing my Mind!!!!
« on: June 26, 2008, 10:43:28 pm »
Hi, I had protected intercourse with a woman just about 10 weeks ago. We used protection but during intercourse she removed the first condom and put another one on. I do not feel it was broken because I remember her rolling it off. But I cannot stop thinking about it. I had an ear infection diagnosed by my doctor just about 2 weeks later and told him about the situation and I explained it to him. He felt I was at no risk for because I used protection. Since the visit, my lymph nodes under my jaw are swollen a bit or I think they are, have experienced pain in my left shoulder, scrotum pimples, and a tonight I have white raised bumps on my shoulder and down my upper arms. I don't think I have experienced ARS because I have had no fever, night sweats, or weight loss. I am just going crazy and need some advice. I have been lurking and reading the posts and they have given me comfort at times. I really respect what you are doing hear.

Also, I had jock itch during the second week. This cleared up in a 3-4 days with antifungal cream and Ammens powder. I know ARS symptoms come at once and leave at once but I am just worried.

You worry needlessly. If the first condom had ruptured your sex partner would not have been able to roll it off. You had protected intercourse and I can't see any need for you to test for HIV from this specific incident.

Please take the time to read our Welcome Thread and follow the links to our Lessons to learn more about how HIV is and is not transmitted

What would my risk be if the condom had broken. I am sure it didn't but I just would like to know. I have never had an std and am in pretty good health. I do not know the woman's HIV status.

If a condom breaks during intercourse it provides protection during until the break. That means it's a lower risk for transmission. The odds against becoming infected during such an incident are very much in favor of the guy wearing the condom.

Thanks Andy, I just have been going nuts. I don't think I contracted HIV but I feel it is more the guilt than anything. I normally don't have one night stands and I think I just have been going through guilt and anxiety. Thanks for listening.

Well, guilt and anxiety are a whole other thing to get sorted out.

Sexuality is a basic part of life. If you find you can't just cant let go the stuff that's bothering you, you might consider seeing a therapist or other professional to help you out. Happily at least you don't have an HIV problem.

Cheers,

Just a question. Is it possible for enlarged lymph nodes under the jaw line and behind your knees b the only sign of an HIV infection. I have had the nodes in the jawline for over 5 weeks and just noticed the ones behind the knees. I have had no other symptoms except for the diagnosed ear infection and a mild case of jock itch. Am I just examining my body too much or do I need to worry. The nodes behind my knees are not too big but I think I feel them.

Poppy,

I'll be straightforward with you. You wouldn't know a lymph node if one bit you on the dick so stop poking yourself in these various places. Any infection (not just HIV) can make nodes swell.

As can prodding them all the time so leave the dratted things alone.

You really have nothing to worry about in terms of HIV. You were not at risk and really don't need to test. You do need to get control of yourself and if you can't do that on your own then take Andy's advice and see a therapist.

I did not say you had a "low risk", I said you were at "no risk" - there's a big difference.

You do not need to test, if you feel ill see your doctor.

We've already told you that you didn't have a risk for transmission. If you're going to continue to worry about this, now that you're at 13 weeks, you can get tested. Do that, collect the inevitable negative result and hopefully put your mind at ease about HIV. And if your symptoms persist, discuss them with the your doctor and find out what's really causing them, because it's not HIV.

Cheers,
Andy Velez
