a new low for credit card companies?

Capital One leads the way...

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...tCardTrap.aspx

Why screw with one credit card (with, say, a $1,500 limit) that only allows one late-fee and one over-limit fee per month to a high-risk borrower, when you can issue 5 cards with $300 limits and quintuple your fee potential?

How do people come up with this shit? How do they sleep at night?

They don't even offer me CCs unless you pay an activation fee. I guess that's because of my bad credit... :-\

How about the newest fee...  the inactivity fee.  If you don't spend a certain amount on the card they'll charge you now.  (sorry if this was mentioned in the article, but the page wouldn't load).

Another thing Capital One does:  They regularly search the credit report of their cardholders.  If, for example, you are late with another card, forgot to pay the phone bill one month, insert anything you want here--they may increase your APR many times over, even if you've never been late with them or anything like that.  A co-worker of mine opened her statement one day and was shocked to see that her APR was increased to 22.6%!  I asked my mom about it and she told me about that--she works in banking/finance (not really exactly sure what her job is).  Anyhow, that co-worker had never been late with Capital One or over the limit, but she had a late payment with a bank loan she had.
