Switiching form Kaletra to Norvia & Reyataz
« on: November 21, 2007, 07:53:40 am »
??? ??? I have been on Kaletra for 5 yrs, but I did read up on it and it is not to good if you
want to keep the body fats down...
I was also on combiviar and had that switched to Truvada, for the same reason.

Are  any women on these meds?

If so, have they helped in stopping the phyical
body effects of your body fats and Lipo?

I was told that this would make a difference......I am really hoping so..

It wont change whats already damaged or altered on my body but it will
stop it from going any further...

At least thats what my new doctor say...

Any opinions here?

From what I've been informed MOST arvs have the capacity to pile weight on. I'm on Norvir, saquinavir and kivexa and it took me 3 visits to id doc to convince her that whilst they SHOULDNT pile the weight on they do...40lbs a year in my case. YES its all a personal thing but women suffer more with weight gain..hope the ones you are on work for you! Truth is, because most drugs relatively new, no hard and fast research, so each and every one can react/interreact...lose/gain you weight, cause side effects, just give everything a proper chance before you ask for a different regime
good luck

I was on Kaletra for 5 yrs..so I gave it a long chance..But I think you have to take chances to see what will work for your body..

I gained too much weight, and I was hoping this new combo would help me..the way
it sounds from you both, is that I am still going to gain weight..geesh..

I was hoping this cocktail would lessen it a bit..
You have to try new things after awhile to see what works for you as an individual..
I just hope I made the right choice here...
'
Guess the way it sounds from you both, is that i will still continue to gain weight..
Ummmmmmmmmmm....whats a girl to do ???

Well at first i was combavir & viracept  for two years. Then on to atripla for two days, i had an allergic eaction to this one . Now i'm on Norivir, reyataz, and truvada which i can say is the the one that got me to undetecable and cd4 to 880.  But i've never had to deal with weight gain. i'm just the oppissit. I'm losing weight, but i have wierd eating habits. no junk foods, sugar, fried foods, and i barely eat meat.  And i'm very active. So maybe that's why no weight gain.
Maybe this will help.

Mini was on viracept when she was a newborn.  It was the first thing her PID put her on after we found the resistence to AZT (started at birth and ended at 8wks old).  She was on viracept w/ zerit and one other med I'd have to look up (it was mixed w/ mylanta and had to be taken on a very empty stomach)  She was resistent to the viracept and the other med. During this time, she had a chunky little face w/ nice "granny pinchin'" cheeks. She went through several med changes before she was put on kaletra, zerit, and susteva in 2002.  She hasn't been gaining weight, either.  Just the opposite, she is completely skeletal.  She eats like a horse and will eat any and everything in sight.  But, she has pretty noticable lypoatrophy especially in her face, belly, legs, and arms. She has no cheeks and her cheek bones protrude.  The skin around her mouth is stretchy and she has laugh lines even when she's not smiling.

HI minimom,

I guess we all cope with different medicines..What works on one person, doesnt always
work on others..

Its a trial and error thing. I guess :-\

Hi Ubott,

Have you tried Aripla for the HIV.  It has 3 medications rolled up in one pill.  600mg: of Efavirenz  which is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase.  200Mg: Emtrictabine Nucleoside  Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors and 300 mg Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors.

It looks like a vitamin pill.  You only take one at night.  So far I have been stable taking Atripla.

Hope your holidays were nice.

Please write back when you get a chance. I would like to know how your are feeling.

HI Courage..
Not doing so well..never did take atripla..they just changed my meds again because the reyataz made me puke an puke ..omg it was horrible
So now I am on Lexiva instead of reyataz..at first they didnt want me to take this because I had an allergic reaction to batrium,,but I said, lets see, I am will to make the change and take
the chance....
Thank god I did..within 3 days I felt better already...(phew)

Now I have to go for a sonogram tomorrow and then a liver biospy on Monday... :(

Just pray I dont have stage 1 ..That's when you need a liver transplant.
 :'(
If i have stage two...I have a 50/50 chance of it being gone..
But.................
I have to inject myself with a khemo like substance, for 9 months.
Twice a day  three times a week..
I will lose weight and my hair, and being co infected, I just hope this isnt all in vain..

Say a prayer for me, that all goes well....
Yep a big group prayer would be nice..and needed...
