Was I at any risk?

Hi.  I'm hoping you can help me.  I've read many other similar posts, and suspect you'll tell me that I was not at risk, but would nonetheless like a response.  So if you'll indulge me...

I was with a man who says he is negative, but could not prove it.  He was masturbating while I was facing away from him on my knees.  He came, and it felt like it landed directly on my asshole.  I've had fissures in the past, and suspect I have one now (sometimes get blood on the TP...).  I immediately got up and washed my backside with cold water, but it probably rested on me for 60 seconds. 

If his semen landed directly on a fissure, or any sort of broken skin, there any chance that I was infected?  I suspect you'll say no, e.g., because the temperature change would have killed the virus.  But I still need to ask.

That's right, you were not at risk. HIV is a fragile virus and is not transmitted by having landed airborne on your butthole. There is no need for testing nor for further concern about this.

What you need to get is that sexually the only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. That is...penetration without a condom. What you experienced is NOT penetration. And is not a risk.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.  I had what may have been an exposure, and I'd like feedback on level of risk.  About two months ago I went to a bathhouse in DC and met someone from out of town attending the Pride event.  I topped him for what I think was less than 5 minutes, and was only semi-erect so quit and never came.  I asked him if he was negative, and he said yes, that he'd been tested recently.  I know that doesn't mean a lot since he was open to being bare-backed unprotected in a bathhouse.  I am circumcised.  This was the very first time I'd ever topped someone unprotected.  Can you give me your honest assessment of how risky this was, and what I should do now.  I should also mention that I am bisexual, and primarily with women, and that my GF came down with a persistent cough shortly after we had sex post-exposure.  I will get tested, but I'd nonetheless like to know how risky you think this was.  Thanks for your candid feedback.

I am assuming your sex was unprotected: without a condom.

And I assume your subsequent sex with others (females) have been without a condom.

In which case you did have a risk in the instance you described and need to test.

While HIV is significantly harder to transmit from the receptive (female/bottom) partner to the insertive (male/top) partner, it is certainly possible and well documented.

Of course, other STDs such as syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and herpes are also (and FAR more easily) passed from the incident as you described.

As people who are not in mutually monogamous relationships, I am assuming you and your female/male companions are getting tested regularly for those STDs as well as HIV. As I am sure you know, many of the easy-to-transmit STDs can be entirely asymptomatic for males, and even clear from their systems while doing incredible damage (infertility, ovarian cysts and cancer) to females.

And, of course, syphilis (which shares the three month window with HIV) is, if undiagnosed and untreated, degenerative and ultimately fatal.

Not trying to scare you. Just trying to put your risk of HIV in perspective.

Yes, you had a low level risk. But as Moderator Jeff likes to say, low risk =/= no risk.  ou need to test, and the best time to test would be six weeks past your incident. A test at three months is still considered the Gold Standard, and as syphilis shares that window, I endorse it as a great chance to get a full STD panel.

I absolutely think you are going to be OK, but yes, you need to test for HIV and other STDs.
