Question about the hotel
« on: August 13, 2011, 06:00:16 pm »
I seem to remember reading in one of these threads that we managed to get the free wireless in our rooms as part of the package deal the the coordinators negotiated with the Roosevelt, but I can't find where I read it. So, am I correct that we will have free wi-fi in our rooms? Or should we bring ethernet cables for the data ports and/or be prepared to pay for our wi-fi use?

I like the amenities of the Roosevelt, although the free wireless in room of the Sixth was a plus. But I can survive with only free wireless in the lobby.
i don't remember hearing anything but your comments about the internet. :D LOL
Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Apparently the search function isn't working. I got no results searching for "wireless" in this forum, and the same thing when I searched all the forums. WTF?

I'm still up in the air about bringing a computer. I want to post some entries to my restaurant blog while we're there, but between haning with all of you and seeing Michael for the first time in decades, I just don't see me having a lot of time for typing. I do plan on posting regularly on Facebook, though, becuase it's so much fun to take a picture and immediately share it with my phone.  I know my mom will enjoy that; she was very pleased when I found our old house from the 60's in a Boston suburb and messaged a picture to her. We visited Seattle in the 70's. Disco era.

What a derail! Sorry about that Ody.

no, the search function isn't working yet (this site has been in a seriously messed up state for quite a few days now). I went to our hotel thread and used the IE search for "internet" and "wireless" and only found that quote by Ody.

There is free wireless in the lobby according to the Roosevelt's site
Quote
In-room wireless Internet access ($9.95 per day)
Complimentary computer with Internet access available in lobby
Complimentary wireless Internet access available in lobby
...
Complimentary high-speed Internet access in the lobby
I'll be going to the lobby with my laptop for sure -
because 4 days of net access there will cost the same as a whole month's worth back home. :o

That must be a really low-power router if it's limited to the lobby.

The Roosevelt Hotel website also has a wealth of info . It listed all the amenities that are standard in each room like hairdryers and ironing boards . The attached restruant Von's Roast house has an excellent web site and looks like a decent place to have appetisers or for breakfast lunch and dinner .

The happy whore menu listed some decent drink specials and half price appeteasers

I was toying with bringing a lap top, but I probably won't use it. There is just too much to see and do to spend a lot of time sitting in front of a computer.

I can do that at home.

I will be bringing my Droid with me, so I can check Facebook, AidsMeds, whatever, and post pictures to my Facebook page, which people here are bugging me to do.

So, I think the lap top is staying home, Besides, it weights several pounds and there is even a weight restriction on trains these days.

HUGS,

Mark

I'm bringing my laptop (I have an ancient phone with no frills), because I expect to take so many pictures I'll need to offload them from my camera. Plus no emails, no FB, no blog updates for 5 days?? I'm a puter-geek not a luddite, so I couldn't deal with that! :D

Jeff:

This is also where we're having our Meet/Greet Friday night.  We have a private room reserved.  6-9p.

Rab is our 'official' welcomer.  I think he gets there noon on Wednesday and I'm sure by that evening he will have his official table set up in the bar.  You'll find him there all week, 24/7.

I'll see what I can do about the cost of internet service in the room.

I saw online reviews of the hotel and they do state that there is a charge.  It is however becoming a standard for that to be free (or included in room rate) now-a-days in most hotels.
