When I am unhappy I watch both The Wedding Planner and Bridget Jone's Diary back to back, preferably twice. Then if I'm still despondent I watch Failure to Launch and 27 Dresses.
ps: I'd like to dedicate this post to Rev. Moon.

.
SO Im guessing you watch that just for Matthew? Cause the storyline leaves me despondent.

Funny, my department director asked me the other day what was my favorite movie and without hesitation, I told her "The Wizard of Oz". The movie has been my favorite since I was 9 years old and 50 years later it still is.
:D

Gurl, you're killing me. Totes.
With the exception of BJ's Diary (part one, obvi --the second one was just ok), that list is like totally catered to some of these other girls. You missed some major "classics" like Eat, Pray, Love (horrible adaptation of a not so bad book), The Back-up Plan, Maid in Manhattan, and Fool's Gold. Miss Lopez and la Hudson specialize in making truly shitty flicks (with the exception of Almost Famous and The Skeleton Key in Hawn Jr.'s case).

Eww, I despise Matthew McConaughey. Overrated, not that sexy, and can't really act. He really thinks he's all that and a bag of chips.
Now, two movies that I watch whenever I'm feeling kinda low are Working Girl and Breakfast at Tiffany's. I have seen both a few times :P. And I confess that I watched While You Were Sleeping a couple of days ago. Not really as good as I remembered it, but it has its charm.

EPL is simply awful, isn't it? Like intolerably so, with the exception of when Javier appears at the end.
Ah yes -- but the joys of Maid in Manhattan. How dare you.

EPL has like every imaginable cliche. I was appalled to see Julia Roberts and Viola Davis lending their talents to such an awful piece of crap. Mr. Penélope Cruz is the only good thing in that dreadful wreck. I however hated the repeated use of Bebel Gilberto's music whenever he was on screen (like, really? I love me some Bebel, but couldn't they at least use something less populachero?).
I didn't like MIM. I felt that Lopez and Fiennes are not good match and the story was just meh. When it comes to Cinderella stories I'd rather watch Ever After with my girl Drew.
Watching Ghost World as I type this entry (and since I'm probably gonna be up till 3 or 4, I will follow it with Slaves of New York). Now that's some good shit.

Loved the book, recall being disappointed in the movie. I don't think I've seen it since it came out. Weren't you still in diapers then?

I believe that I read the book when I was about thirteen (circa 1989). The movie came out around the same time. You probably didn't like it as much cause it is not a "good" movie per se. It's one of those cult classics that gets better with time, kinda like Parker Posey's Party Girl (which I totally adore) and the infamous Showgirls.

It was, wasn't it?
Sure there were all those German dyke films of the 20s and 30s but in the English speaking world nothing had the impact of Victim.
Bogarde always described Victim as "the most important film I made."
I cannot recommend Victim highly enough. It lays the ground work for Jarman, Waters and Van Sant.

Wut is ethyl do I need to goggle this :o
-
ethyl is this stuff that comes in a spray can -- hence the necessary hankie in the back pocket. You sprayed the ethyl on the hankie and breathed in, and it was like breathing in something cold like ice and then all you can hear is the thumping bass of the music for about 10 seconds.

I like it a lot. Well, I'm a big fan of pretty much anything with Geena Davis (the main exception being Cutthroat Island). Her film The Accidental Tourist is one that I like to watch whenever I'm in the dumps.
On a totally different note, and for all my queens with a fine taste, I highly recommend last year's Weekend (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/weekend_2011/). I have not seen a queer flick as good as this one for some time. It is absolutely lovely. You can catch it on Netflix (or wait till August for the Criterion release).

Saw it when it came out and wondered why I never heard anyone mention it. It's like the best fag flick for the past decade IMO.

I guess that's what happens when Fassy becomes the topic of any conversation (no matter the thread): all thoughts immediately focus on the penile.

I couldnt sleep last night so I watched Christmas in July and The Great McGinty on TNT .

1) wtf is Fassy?
2) while we're still on "Weekend" exactly how swoonable is Tom Cullen (http://aubreyroad.blogspot.com/2011/12/manly.html)?

I figured I'd answer (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1055413/bio) the question before Red_Dragon fell prey to some hypnotic spell again.
PS: Cullen is quite delish, but he reminds me of Stanley Weber (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2720118/resumephotos)

And yes Tom Cullen is adorable, but so is Chris New. He looks like the kinda shawty that would fuck your brenz out.

Michele: Did you lose weight?

Well, I think this can pick a person up !! ;D I don't know how the heck I discovered this, but I was searching for something last week and this came up.
Totally unrelated to what I was searching for, I decided to click on it and watch.
At the end of this video, it says, if this made you smile , pass it on, so I am passing it on. Not only was I smiling, I had a good laugh !
I think this guy is great, full of energy, good natured, and best of all he knows how to have fun, have a good time, and make people smile.
I never heard of him before, ( I am probably way behind) and not sure if anyone ever posted a video before, but any way here he is

I kind of like everything Kudrow does, even her supporting role material. Especially more off beat material like Happy Endings and Opposite of Sex. I wish she was in more stuff.
Alas, I was never big on "Cheers"

She's reminds me of Phoebe in every role she's ever played.

And while not a pick me up flick, I re-watched The New World last night and it's just so well made. Wasn't so big on it the first viewing years ago, but every time I re-watch it this grows by leaps and bounds with me, to where it's one of the best in past decade. Like a long, meandering poem made into a film with the very best Terrence Malick cinematography, made better that they were insistent of filming around the corner of Jamestown on a tributary of the James River, so it all reminds me of any time I spent in that really amazing part of Tidewater Virginia. And that last 1/4 Pocahantas dies mind sequence section blew my mind in emotional engagement -- made the film. And Christopher Bale look perf in that role thought he was consigned to the very last 1/4 of the film. I want to buy this movie only once I get BluRay.
If you've ever visited Charles City County you'd get my drift. Love that area between Williamsburg and Richmond along the river, and would even retire there in a heartbeat if the politics in that state, ADAP, etc. weren't so depressing.
Oh, and I like so.psyched.about the in-production Malick-Gosling project "Lawless" though I was kind of "meh" with Tree of Life and need a second viewing.
-
She's reminds me of Phoebe in every role she's ever played.
ERMEHGARD that's what I meant. But I hated the rest of the characters on that.

This may be a 2012 award-winning short answer in a film category.
I know, I know, I'm late to the Red Carpet thread here and have nothing to contribute re: anti-dumps flicks. Or, is that anti-dumpers? I'll have a reference list for the future however.

I watched a pretty nicely restored version of The Blob last night. Steve McQueens first movie... ("Steven McQueen") He's 27 and playing a sensitive teen. It was great fun, and really clever metaphor for a lot of things...
