Hi Jessica,

Have you checked out our Lesson on Norvir? That may offer some insight.

I presume you're taking a small dose of Norvir to boost another protease inhibitor so it may not be the Norvir that is making you ill. What other meds are you taking?

Norvir, generally speaking, should be taken with food and this can help prevent nausea.

I'm not aware of any particular foods which are prohibited when taking Novir (except maybe for grapefruit juice) so if you've got a sensitive stomach anyway you might want to try a bland diet and see if that helps.

If the nausea is very bad you may wish to speak with your doctor. There are medications which can help you control nausea.

For me, it was always easiest to down that puppy with something like a smoothie or a milkshake - something that had some substance to it.

These days (now that I am more accustomed to it), I swig it down in the morning with coffee (flavored with creamer, so there is still a bit of thickness to it).

I just started a combo with norvir in the last month and have never had a bit of problem with it . I do take it after a full meal though .

It does seem to generate some foul gas from time to time .

I'm on R/T/N and have had lots of issues with the gelcap Norvir through the years. Things are better with the tablet version; but I still stick to my old eating habits to lessen the chances of nausea. I always take my Norvir with a full meal (ie that means dinner, cause a sandwich at lunch just isn't enough) by eating half the meal, taking the Norvir, and then eating the rest of my meal. Buried in the middle of my meal (taking it after the meal is too late), it takes a while for the Norvir to slowly dissolve which causes much fewer to nearly no problems these days.

gosh, just coffee, TH. Not only is that not enough to "cover" it up for my stomach to deal with it; but the hot liquid (like soups too) tend to hasten the process and guarantee that I would be barfing within half an hour. I used to actually be able to tell when the gelcap would burst by getting a rush of a flush and then the puking. It's so not bad though with the tablet although a couple times, taking it with just a bowl of chili or soup has lead me to wanting to barf 30 or 40 minutes later to make the nausea go away. LOL
