Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

college fresman worried a/b co-infection

my question is i had a possible exposure last july about 15 months ago, i have had six hiv tests, april(9 months), august(13 months), september and october 15th, all negative, i was wondering if i was that percentage of people who did not respond to the hepb vaccine, and was infected with hiv at the same time could it be possible to have a delayed seroconversion? i mean 15 months and no antibodies, would i be extremely sick or does that mean nothing at all, i would have tested for hep, but the health dept. wont let me b/c they say i'm no risk, i've been vaccinated. i also recently donated blood, i wouldnt have but my doc says its ok b/c i've been tested, i think i am suffering from hypochondria, and i'm also seeing a shrink, oh and the exposure was unprotected

Your HIV antibody test results indicate a rock-solid conclusive negative result.

With reference to the HBV vaccination are you saying that you've not produced antibodies after completing the full course of injections?

no i'm saying i havent even been tested for it, health dept. wont b/c they say i've been vaccinated

Ok.

As I said, your HIV test results are conclusive. After 15 months and testing at 13 months there's no doubt you are HIV negative.

Testing for HBV infection is somewhat involved and is entirely unnecessary if you've been properly vaccinated. If you're concerned that the vaccination hasn't worked (and there's absolutely no reason to be) you should ask your doctor to order a HBV General Mean Titre (GMT) and/or surface antibody test. These tests will tell you if you've had a sufficient immune response to the vaccine.

But as I said, there's absolutely no reason to think your vaccination hasn't worked.

Like Matty, I agree that you are unquestionably and happily HIV negative.

However, you need to learn from this experience. You can all the intercourse you want to and with whomever you choose no matter their HIV status, BUT you must use a latex condom everytime. No exceptions. They provide very effective protection but only if they are worn.

You've lucked through this time but you can't always count on that to happen, so use condoms.
