Face off
« on: January 11, 2007, 03:49:42 pm »
I've developed a pretty bad rash on my face. It sorta comes and goes at will, very red, very splotchy. My Dr. seems to think it may be HIV related and has perscribed hydrocortesone. A wicked lilttle steroiid that I know is not really good for you. The rash is so prevelant people look at me and say "dude?? whats wrong with you?".
Curious if anyone else has had this and if there was successful resolve. ...........I hope so.

I had some splotchy rashes on my face before a few times.  I used ketoconazole or Triamcinolone Acetonide.  Generally, the ketoconazole was what worked for the most part.  Only had to use the other in extreme situations where there was itching involved.  In those times, there was usually rash over larger areas of my body as well.
AIDS isn't for sissies.

Have you seen a dermatologist?  Is that the doctor you're referring to?  If not I'd ask for an appointment with a dermatologist, maybe even one with HIV+ clients if possible.  Has the doctor ruled out such common infections as Impetigo, for which antibiotics are the standard treatment?   How are your CD4 and viral load numbers?  Are you taking HIV meds?   I'm asking so many questions because each might be relevant to your rash.

Sorry I have no answers but my last rash was Impetigo about 20 years ago.  I didn't know what the hell was going on but a referral to a dermatologist resolved the problem.

Good luck!

Funny that you'd ask that...

I have a little rash on my face and my friend (nursie-wannabe) says it's probably a fungus.  I've been treating it with antifungals for feet, but it just seems to stay there, and then every now and then it peels. :(  Some days I forget it's there (usually on the days of my doctor visits)  but I'm going to the doctor tomorrow, as they called me today (I think I'm gonna be starting HIV meds) and I'm somewhat disheartened. :(

Anyway, I am going to ask him to get rid of it... :(

Yeah important questions. So it's just your face and nowhere else? Good luck. Sounds like it requires immediate attention

Thanks for your replys. Thus far I have no idea what my T cell count is. I just had my first lab work done last week. No results yet. So.......I dont have an ID Dr. My general Dr. has recommended I see a dermatologist but thats another appointment for another day. I need relief now. I was just hoping somebody has had the same thing (or nearly) and might remember what they used to combat it.  Thanks ya'll    Jordon
