Where are the English Rugby fans now...
« on: October 21, 2007, 08:46:08 pm »
Not still crying in your beers are you, Chris and Cliff?

I knew I should have stuck with the Southern Hemisphere team.

Of the 6 Rugby World Cups contested, it has been won 5 times by a team from the Southern Hemisphere. The Aussies and South Africans twice, and the Kiwis once. Looks like the south is better than the north at just about everything.  ;D

For those who don't know, South Africa won convincingly on the weekend.

Be forgiving, be grateful, be optimistic

Thats cruel Steve!  I actually wasn't that gutted at the end because I knew that we'd over performed getting to the final anyway.  And I can't say that the players didn't give there all as well South Africa were just a better team in the end.  I have to say though I disagree with the winning convincingly point, if Cueto's try had stood it would have been a different story!

It was closer than I would have liked, but thats the nature of these finals...... We are the Champions tho!!   Yes Steve, you Should have stuck with the South but i'll let you off just this once for a little "mother country" patriotism.   I'm still feeling like I played the game after all the partying, I saw the sun rising on Sunday morning with a few friends who made it back to my place after the nights festivities. England did really well to come back from the earlier 36-0 drubbing, but ultimately I think SA deserved the world cup!

Cheers

Hey Matt, no sore loser here. I was glad we got knocked out - see previous post on this issue. Our Rugby team sorely needed a good kick in the butt and dose of humility. They've been overated for a long time now.

As for the beer, I'm assuming your talking about that Fosters dribble. Aussies don't drink it, we hate the stuff. That's why we export it (actually, it is brewed near Manchester) to the rest of the world and keep the slightly better stuff for ourselves. I will concede that you have a far greater variety of nice ales to choose from. I recall a fab afternoon sipping ales by a pond at a pub in Rottingdean back in '97.

That's one thing I have heard time and again from the Aussies.

And PLEASE change that dreadful spider avatar soon, Steve.  It gives me the absolute willies.

Apologies for the brief highjack, but this queen has zero to contribute about sports.

Does anyone, anywhere actually drink the stuff?
Maybe the factory is just a cover for a major drug operation, or secret government facility or something.

What you need to realise Steve is that the UK is a large collection of alcoholics on a small island and Fosters is very cheap!

Hey Chris, did you see the Cueto interview last night on NorthWest Tonight? You can access it online at http://www.bbc.co.uk/northwesttonight/latest_stories/index.shtml

There's actually two segments, one called "Cueto on 'that' try" and "Cueto on World Cup agony".

Ann

PS - check out what Cueto says about the Aussie ref. ;D

Thanks for link Ann the interview seemed to have gone by the time I'd had a look.  I'll have a search through youtube later I'm sure it'll be on there somewhere.  Steve the ref keeps going on about this clear shot of his foot being 30cm over the line before he touches down but i've not seen it yet!
