Sounds like a great starting point to me.  I see that your partner was diagnosed a couple of years ago and has a multi-drug resistant strain, so I trust that your doctor is going to run a resistance test for you?

Hey screamer, my numbers are very similar to you. I tested positive a month back, and have no clue when and I got infected. My doctor says it could be as old as 8-10 yrs. Do you know when you might have gotten infected before you tested positive?
My doctor has asked me to come back after 3 months too.

Well I get tested every 3 months...  and i was negative till July 1st, but i was having fevers and acute infection symptoms back in April... so my guess is march...  but... i also have been with 10 HIV+ people without condoms since i been 17 and never gotten HIV, all my partners were undetectable, and on meds except the one i think i got it from back in April who wasn't on meds and had a detectable viral load.

sreamer17ydr,

I just want to clarify things here for other people who read your thread - especially the nosy ones who come over from the Am I Infected forum, looking for posts to disprove what we tell them over there about the window period.

You tested positive on July 1st, but the way you've worded it above, it sounds like you were still negative on July 1st. In your signature line you state you tested positive on July 1st.

If you test every three months, my guess is that your last negative result was in late March or early April. This means you were still well within the window period when you last tested negative. My guess is also that you tested before six weeks after your last barebacking episode with a known  positive person.

I'm sorry you ended up positive, but unfortunately that's what happens when you bareback with hiv positive people. Some people would call it "bug chasing". It's like playing the roulette wheel - sooner or later your number is going to come up. If you were barebacking with hiv positive people, I'd say it's safe to assume you were also barebacking with people who claimed to be or honestly thought they were hiv negative. That's also playing roulette. Many people don't accurately know their hiv status. Chance are good you barebacked with far more than ten pozzies - those are just the ones you KNOW about.

Again, sorry that you ended up here. At least you know your status and you can take the necessary steps to remain healthy.

Ann

I hope you don't mind me saying this, but I'm a bit personally concerned of the unaddressed thought processes in someone your age that seemed to be habitually seeking out unprotected sex with know positive individuals.  Now, I realize that it's all water under the bridge now that you're actually positive... mission accomplished I suppose, but I'd assume that there are residual issues going on.  Does this not bother you or do you not really think about it?

Then you must have been barebacking during this time (between March and July) as well. You are highly unlikely to have tested negative outside six weeks of initial infection, and definitely would not have taken more than three months. The average time to seroconversion is only 22 days.

sreamer17ydr, I'm not lecturing you and I apologise if it came across that way. If you want to play roulette with your life and health, that's your business.

The purpose of my posts was to clarify for the nosy people from the Am I Infected forum who would try to take your unclear posts as proof that we don't know what we're talking about when it comes to the hiv testing window period. We get questioned about posts like yours all the time and frankly, I'd rather risk your ire here by trying to clarify than try to figure out who they're bleating on about over in Am I. You have no idea what headaches that causes over there. I'm not saying this is your fault, far from it. I just wanted to establish that you were very much in the accepted window period when you tested poz because you were still having unprotected intercourse with someone of positive or unknown hiv status. Sorry if I upset you.

Good luck with your resistance test. Hope you're all clear for any combo. Keep us posted on that score.
