Drinking coffee cuts alcohol's harmful effects
Just a cup a day helps prevent cirrhosis of the liver, researchers say

CHICAGO - Coffee may counteract alcohol’s poisonous effects on the liver and help prevent cirrhosis, researchers say.

In a study of more than 125,000 people, one cup of coffee per day cut the risk of alcoholic cirrhosis by 20 percent. Four cups per day reduced the risk by 80 percent. The coffee effect held true for women and men of various ethnic backgrounds.

It is unclear whether it is the caffeine or some other ingredient in coffee that provides the protection, said study co-author Dr. Arthur Klatsky of the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research in Oakland, Calif.

Of course, there is a better way to avoid alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, Klatsky said.

“The way to avoid getting ill is not to drink a lot of coffee, but to cut down on the drinking” of alcohol, he said.

WOW!  Why not do it in one step and drink Irish Coffee?!  My last name is the same as Dingo's first name, so you know which liqueur is my choice...and WOW again, they're about to do this story on my local news.  Small, technical world we live in, eh?

I usually drank so much coffee from 5am till 11am, I had to start drinking cocktails at 11:30 each day.
Now that we have something for the liver, how about something to prevent me from  becoming an obnoxious fucking bore everytime I drink? Or something to get me to come home before the sun comes up?

then I could start all over again! thats why I quit drinking. Irish Coffe? I thought the new drink was red bull and vodka?

Vodka redbulls are toxic. We thought our meds were bad, but I had a bender on vodka redbull one night and I felt poisoned for days. the stuff was oozing out of my skin.
