I'm having to cancel my trip to AMG
« on: September 02, 2007, 02:36:22 pm »
In the past three weeks I have not been 100% well and have been increasingly getting myself stressed about my impending trip to the USA for this year's AMG, particularly as I would have been entering the US without the required visa waiver.

Last night I was so unwell that I was seriously considering calling an ambulance at midnight. I didn't but struggled through the night with fever/chills; diarrhoea, vomiting, migraine and a panic attack that made it difficult to breathe. I woke up this morning and realised that I cannot risk stressing myself anymore to the point where I might become more seriously ill - I just haven't got enough t-cells to take that risk.

And so with great regret I have decided to cancel my flight/hotel for San Francisco. I am very sad and disappointed at missing out on meeting so many of you and in participating it what will surely be a wonderful experience but I have had to look at the bigger picture and my gut instinct tells me that I cannot risk travelling at this time.

I truly hope that all those attending have a fantastic time, I will think of you all during those days and will be with you in spirit but sadly now not in person.

Emma

PS - I will check with my airline to see if I can transfer my flight to someone else as I cannot get any refund on the ticket, if they say yes then I will offer it here for anyone in London who might want to make a last minute trip.

Oh Emma, what a pity! I'm so sorry to read that you've not been well and gutted you won't be able to make it to AMG. But your health is priority and only you know what you are/are not feeling upto. You will be sorely missed girl but you need to do what's best for you. Just concentrate on getting yourself fit and well.

Being back in the UK now, I'll be aiming to come and visit you as soon as I can. Lucky me! :)

I've just pm-ed you.

Healing hugs
Melia xx

PS: Have you spoken with a doctor yet this weekend?

Even though I am unable to attend this year, I couldn't read your post without replying. So sorry to learn of the struggles you're going through. I hope that you get better soon. Stress is such an incredible menace.

If Melia makes it your way, you'll have no better Get Well card.

Dear Emma,

I'm so sorry you've had to cancel your plans. I was looking forward to meeting you. Travel (especially airplane travel) is always stressful for me, even when I'm feeling well, and even when it's for a vacation. I can imagine that a very long flight to a different country plus uncertainty about the ridiculous U.S. entry regulations regarding HIV would just add to the stress.

I wonder if a note from your doctor stating the medical necessity for your cancellation would help get you a refund for the airfare.

I hope you'll be feeling better soon.

Allan

Emma Dear,

How sad... They told us at an HIV support group meeting (in another place and another time) that stress was our greatest enemy.  It seems so unfair that no one told the stressors this and left us to fight our battles on our own.  Over the years, I have been stressed over driving to far away places (within the state of California).  I just can't imagine what it is like to cross an international border, I wish you well.  Have the best day

Em;

Well shit!  I'm sorry you've not been feeling well and will have to cancel.  But your health has got to be the first priority.

I'll say a private toast to the "lady with the infectious smile" at the Meet & Greet, and will hope that someday I'll meet you in person.

Get better soon.

Emma this is not worth getting that stressed out about. Glad you have done what you did to stop this upset; sorry our (USA) visa waiver/restrictions caused you so much grief. I hope these conditions clear up soon.
We can send you pics. Lots of 'em!
