Hi,

I'm sorry that you are going through this.  Hopefully you are doing OK.

Are you separated or divorced?  I could see you losing coverage if you are divorced but is she legally allowed to remove you from the plan if you are only separated?  Hopefully you have an attorney that can answer that question.  I'm just thinking that isn't right but if you are removed from her insurance then you could get the COBRA policy (yes it is astronomical).

Have you looked at the state insurance plans or contacted any of the local insurance companies to look at costs?  Then again even talking with your doctor might be a good option.  I'm sure they know of some programs.

Hope you can figure something out and wishing you the best.

Check the ADAP for your state, link below

AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) - IDPH
www.idph.state.il.us/health/aids/adap.htm

ADAP will assist IPXP clients by paying the $1,600 prescription out-of-pocket cost for all ADAP approved formulary drugs. ADAP Applicants who qualify for IPXP are eligible to apply for the Continuation of Health Insurance Coverage (CHIC) Program through the Illinois Department of Public Health. CHIC will assist clients

It might pay your COBRA payments.  Check here first.

Do you not have health insurance available from your employer?  That would have to be the cheapest of all insurance options, given your income.
My guess would be that your wife wouldn't be able to drop you from her coverage until open enrollment as I don't believe (but could be wrong) that separation is a qualifying event for changing in the middle of a plan year.  It would probably only be when the divorce would be final (if it gets to that point).  Of course, it would also mean you can't opt in to your employers until open enrollment.

Good luck.

Mike

Look into applying for the Ryan White program it for uninsured or under insured people.  I don't know if there are income limits or if you can spend down to qualify but look into it and if you are told no ask for documentation or find info on line as to what can qualify you.
Pray God you can cope
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.
