HIV/Genital Herpes/Oraquick accuracy questions
« on: July 22, 2017, 07:49:18 pm »
31 days ago I had an encounter with a CSW. We had oral and vaginal sex 2 times. The oral sex was unprotected but the vaginal sex we used a condom both times. No breakage or failure of the condom.

I was diagnosed with genital herpes (HSV2) over 2 years ago, but rarely get outbreaks. When I do get them, it's typically a very mild rash on the underside of my penis near the tip and always in the same exact spot. When having intercourse it is always protected by the condom.

I am curious to know what my exposure level/risk would have been with the CSW in this case. I know having genital herpes may put me at higher risk.

I took an Oraquick home saliva swab test yesterday (31 days after intercourse) and it was negative. How comfortable should I be with these results?

Thanks and bless you all :)

You should be very comfortable with the tests results, since you were not at risk for HIV infection because the vaginal sex you engaged in with the CSW was protected.

Receiving unprotected oral sex is not a risk for HIV infection and providing it is a theoretical risk only if your mouth contains gaping wounds.  Unprotected oral sex could put you at risk for other STD's/STI's, however.

Thx so much for your response.

I've read that genital herpes can increase the risk for transmitting HIV. Could the virus still transmit to me if I had a sore somewhere else besides my penis? I've read that tiny microscopic breaks in the skin are a perfect storm for HIV cells to bind to. I know that the condom covered me, but I'm still uneasy about this.

Hi, Herpes can increase risk when active during UNPROTECTED intercourse, that was not the case with you. As Patrick has advised you were not at risk for HIV and it is safe to move on.
