Changing regiments
« on: August 28, 2019, 09:47:14 pm »
Hi everyone. Doc decided it was time to change from Reyataz, Norvir and Truvada to Biktarvy. This being my first med change I was wondering if anyone had made this change and what if any side effects they had. I've never had any  trouble tolerating the current meds and would appreciate anyone's thought on this change.   Thanks

what prompted this decision and is it something you agree with?

I took Reyataz, Norvir and Truvada for quite a number of years with great results, but switched to Prezcobix/Isentress a few yrs ago to reduce the pill burden and to switch from the norvir booster to cobicistat.

Hi Leatherman    There are a few reasons for the change,  My creatinine levels are high, they have been steadily climbing since I first started taking the meds and have gotten high enough it was time to switch to something a little easier on the kidneys. I have always had spikes in my Vl over the years( I know some spikes are normal and never high enough to genotype and I have a great adherence record.) nothing real high, just never seemed to stay at UD for any length of time. Everything else (cd4 etc.) continue to do very well and I'm looking forward to the convenience of a single pill.                                                                                 I brought this with up my doc a year or so ago , due to the rising creatinine levels and some concern over my continuous spikes.   I don't start the new meds until next week and any do's and don'ts with the new meds would be greatly appreciated. Hope I've answered your questions with out rambling too much. ;)

I've been on biktarvy a while. With or without food, morning or night seems to be no issue.

I reread your posts, about your old regimen, 'never had any trouble tolerating', but the creatinine is high... We have to look at long term effects not just immediate effects. It sounds like it's time for a change.  In the 30+ years I've been on treatments I've been through a few changes, we really are getting better combos. I'm sure this gs will continue to improve.

Good luck and it was nice hearing from you.

Hi  harleymc    Thanks for your insight. It's good to know that I don't have to wait for a meal to take the new meds. That's one habit I can't wait ti be rid of.

Pills with meals way a hassle if you forgot to take them at mealtime.  It became easy to completely miss or to overeat to squeeze in that 'missed pill extra meal'
