Well, it's not a German Shepherd, but a nice doggy nonetheless! Congrats milker to your new baby!

I hope you get her house-trained quickly or else you'll entertain us with plenty of dog poop stories (which you'll do anyways). ;D

Congratulations on the successful adoption. She is a lucky dog because I know you had your heart set on her, in particular.
I checked out the size of those paws; she promises to be as big as a full-blood lab. Her face is so unique. It was fate, milker!

Well I got her from a rescue shelter, apparently she was put in the shelter mailbox after she was born, no name.. so the shelter kept her, took care of her, spayed, vaccinated etc, then put her for adoption. I'm very lucky :)

As soon as she got in my house she peed on the carpet (I mean not less than 5 seconds after getting in). She pooped once, but the other times she peed on the training pads and outside, so she's not potty trained completely but she will get there.

I started crate training about 30 minutes ago.. and finally got her to stay in her crate and lay down and relax. She also finds the water dispenser utterly amusing :)

Milker.

edited to add: /she was called Bonnie by the shelter. I love that name so I'm keeping it ! /

im so jealous i remember the bliss of new parenthood before it becomes obvious that the little bastard is never gonna listen to you despite the fact you saved its life

my horrible evil doggy child has destroyed hundreds of £ worth of furniture but still i love him to bits

enjoy your new parenthood and the nice snuggly phase where you think he didnt mean to destroy the sofa/coffee table/duvet/clothing/skirting board....

i blame the parents!!!

puppy training classes At PetSmart are worth the $. When Oscar came into my life we went through the 8 week course. It was the best thing I could have done for him. Try to socialize her with other dogs so she won't be intimidated by another puppy dogs Consistency is the key to housebreaking a dog. The first thing they want to do after waking up is to use the potty. & Dogs usually have to "go" 20 minutes after they eat.  While cage trainiing may sound cruel, it actually isn't.  When you take her out to pee go to the same place in the yard & after she does her jobs give a little treat & then go right back inside. I did that with Oscar at 9 weeks and had him housebroken in 4 days.

Get a 4 ft leash & tie it to your belt loop. Keep her attached to it 10-15 minutes twice a day for a while. This will teach her to want to stay by you. It worked with Oscar.

Yes I wanted to do the petsmart training but in 8 weeks i'll be in san francisco! My neighbor has trained her dog very well, so she offered to do the training. We're going to meet the neighbor dog tonight. She just ate and I rushed her to go potty outside after she ate, she peed in less than 10 seconds..

I started crate training and that will help a lot I agree !

The joys of a new child!   I get emotional just thinking about it :'(....I am such a (          )when it comes to dogs!!!!!OMG

My youngest child was kicked out of Petsmart obedience class....LOL....poor thing is just a mess...he is my adoption from the Broward County Humane Society.  He had been adopted twice before he finally found a permanent home with me.  He pees everywhere, poor baby, he can't help it....as soon as I open the door in the afternoons he wags his tale and pees  LOL.   He was abused and terrified of men when I first got him, now the little shit will just run up to anybody and give them kisses.  I guess he is over his early years of abuse and he has no scars left :D. well, the peeing is the only thing left, but it is all good.
I'm sorry for highjacking the thread, this is about Bonnie!

create training is great, she'll learn that it is her safe place and enjoy the crate.  I had a basset hound growing up and he adored his crate, only slept in it and kept his toys in there, all safe and just for him.
I'm so happy for you Milker, enjoy her "puppyness" while it lasts, they grow so fast!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Bonnie is a beauty! We highly recommend crate training until she is a little older. Some people see it as cruel but it will save you some headaches and will become her safe place.

Awww...Bonnie is just too f**king cute Milker :)
Thanks for rescuing her, we got Buddy from a shelter also.  He was 3 yrs. old when we got him. but I decided to crate train him as he still was not fully house-broken and I had no idea what he would do in the house while we were at work.  He now waits by his crate in the morning when he knows it's almost time for me to leave.  It's his safe place during the day and he has not had an accident in the house for months.

Good luck to you...*kisses for Bonnie*

I was going to say that she is perfect, is almost house trained (no pee/poop at all inside for 2 days in a row), she learned "down", she funny as hell, she spends the entire nights in her crate without complaining and waits for me to get up.. perfect.. until 5 minutes ago..

She just jumped on the couch and brought with her so much dirt on her paws I had to check what happened outside..

She happens to LOVE the sprinklers, which started at 8am.. After they stopped, she started digging around one to get some water.. Result: there is a big hole around the sprinkler and soil dirt all over the house. I never said I love vacuum cleaning at 8:30 in the morning, did I?

Oh well, it could be poop, i'm lucky  ;D

I was told to put a mothball where I don't want her to dig  ???

Also, remind me not to leave the squeaky toys in her crate during the night.. that sound is very scary at 3am  :D

Milker-

I agree with above, PetSmart classes are worth the money. Even if you aren't going to be in the same place in 8 weeks, they start classes a few times a month so just find one near you wherever you are going.

Also, if you puppy is doing the right thing make sure to praise her when she is doing it. Dogs like praise when they are doing good.

And another thing, if you have to punish your puppy at all use a squirt bottle. Never hit them. The squirt of water won't hurt them, but they won't like it. Eventually when they see the squirt bottle they will stop what they are doing when they see the squirt bottle without you even having to squirt them.

Oh Milker, you have a Lab baby  :D...they are water dogs...lol....take her swimming, she'll love it.
I don't know about moth balls, sounds scary to me.

so did you laugh or what?  I can never get mad at the dogs, even when they are bad, I just crack up, they are so innocent and loving.... ;D

She's enrolled in the puppy class friday 10 for 8 weeks, I will only miss one friday while at AMG, and the trainer said it's easy to reschedule a class, i'm as excited as she is, I hope there will be hot guys there lol  :o I must admit that walking a puppy gives a lot of new "opportunities"  ;D

Oh yeah I forgot to say that she peed on a pedestrian.. The guy was all Ohhs and Ahhs when he saw her, she got excited and peed on his feet  :D :D :D

Good info about the squirt bottle, thanks!!

pozattitude she needs a last round of shots and learn "come" before going to the beach, but the plan is to go with her boyfriend, the 7 year old lab owned by my lesbian neighbors (she tried to mount him allready, that was hilarious, they said "that's our girl! she's a lesbian yay!"), that way we think she'll follow him and not disappear .

I didn't laugh this morning, I rolled eyes, said "oh my.." and blamed myself because I let her dig a bit yesterday (I thought it was cool, I got a strong dog, ya know), then put her in the crate and vacuumed  ::)

I keep cracking up watching her discover the world :D
