My girlfriend in a general tactical basis checkup found to have 9700 WBC , hiv negative , only some minor thyroid problems she has , and she complains all the time that I have depression , I don't give her enough interest , I neglect her etc....

How much unconscious can a person with perfect almost hygiene and health can be?
She didn't understand yet that having health you are the richest person in the world...

Should I accept complains and explain or do you think it's toxic behaviour???
Generally complains maybe mean that someone does some bad things that's why he/she accepts complains...

But in our position, accepting complains is it furthermore bad for our health???

You should follow the recommendation that comes from this community: find a therapist. Take your medicine.

You seem reluctant to listen what this forum advises you to do. Instead you circulate around the same issues over and over. Therefore, one last time from me: find a therapist. Take your medicine and don’t miss a dose. Best Matt

Hey Matt , hii , how are you? Wishing you all the best...

I'm sorry but I think I am a bit misunderstood.
I think I didn't talk about this that someone who has his total health cannot compassionate someone without...

For the other issues aforementioned above some time ago , I can understand your suggestion for mental doctor or therapist... But about asking your opinion if having someone in our lives who is not understanding us ...is another topic...

Yes I don't miss doses.
Thanks for your support..
Wishing you all agood night..

Hello my friend, when I suggest for you to work with a therapist, I’m not referring to the various topics you bring up. I’m referring to your thinking pattern which suggests you go in circles. You are a master of creating new topics and the reservoir is endless. This prevents you to focus on the one topic that counts most: live your life.

Best Matt

Hello guys...
How are you?
I was pretty fine last two weeks that I didn't bother you a lot...
Until today.
I need your opinions please but real.
Because I didn't search on the net.

I was for food with some good friends.
They are old and we'll educated. Meaning about 48-70
The younger one is medical examiner, doctor.

Sometime returning to home we listened to radio George Michael song. He told me he died from aids.
I told I think from heart attack. Because I think his partner had but not him.

Anyways.
He told back... No he had this. And I wonder how Magic Johnson can live for almost 30 years with being carrier of the virus.

I asked : but new drugs can suppress virus.

He told me anyways the delay more the progress to AIDS.
But progress is for granted , slow or fast , whatever pills whatever you do.

And he destroyed my mood.

So I ask you.
With new treatments can we stop progression to AIDS or just delay it from having it tomorrow and postpone it to have it in 15-20-30 yrs???

Sorry sorry , I know....
But his medical profile f@@ked my mood....and optimism.

Good night guys..
Hugs

for educated people they are all talking rubbish. Didn't any of y'all have a smart phone for google?
wikipedia told me this about George Michael's health

Quote
struggled with substance abuse....
abused sleeping pills.[187]...
....
October 2011, chest pains , pneumonia and, until 1 December, was in an intensive care unit; at one point, he was comatose.
...
undergone a tracheotomy.[192] After waking from the coma, Michael had a temporary West Country accent, and there was concern he had developed foreign accent syndrome.[193]
...
May 2013, Michael sustained a head injury when he fell from his moving car on the M1 motorway, near St Albans in Hertfordshire, and was airlifted to hospital
...
senior coroner in Oxfordshire attributed Michael's death to dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and a fatty liver

then googling up "Fadi Fawaz", GM's final boyfriend, I found that he was the only one to have said anything about HIV. I learned he said it 3 years later with a lot of other acrimonious accusations ....while selling off George Michael memorabilia to pay off his own overdue debts. That's not a reliable source at all.

about what they said and move on.
I don't know if I'd forget this. Your friends didn't actually know the facts about GM, and made up a story. Then when you actually mentioned the real life events they implied that you were incorrect.... when it was them. Then they told you the wrong medical information about a medical condition that they obviously know nothing about. Maybe they're making up these stories with no evil intent because they're just older guys pontificating about stuff they half-read on the internet or half-heard on the news and only half-assed remembering any of it; but regardless of the reason, you should remember to take important information from them with a grain of salt.  ;)

ojo.             Hello again…with all due respect, if treatment were to delay aids, why are you wasting your time worrying, go out and enjoy life, as you said you were doing for two weeks, don’t listen to anyone but yourself, if you are feeling healthy and having fun, so, you are ok, your body will tell you, besides your kidneys, if something is wrong so you will check with your doctor, meanwhile, take advantage of each day of those “15, 20 or 30 years treatment is delaying you getting AIDS”…I, like Magic Johnson, have been living with hiv/aids ( I’m not sure if he ever had an aids dx, ever 30 years with the virus and, I lived with AIDS for five years after my AIDS dx, with only 20 cd4 which means that I was already living with AIDS for at least two years before my dx, according with my specialist…I invite you to live every day as it was the last day of your life, nobody knows when you or I are going to die, I have been doing that, living every day as it was my last day, since my aids dx in 1994, even though, after my doctor told me that I l only had two years to live…just a humble opinion…best wishes.                  ojo

When I was first diagnosed in the hospital, I was very naive about treatment for HIV.
I thought exactly how you do now, I was scared and confused.

The infectious disease doctor told me bluntly "You have full blown AIDS",.. and he didn't tell me that the Atripla he prescribed would most likely save my life.
He seemed to be more interested in who I slept with.

Another doctor, a pulmonologist who was treating me for the pneumonia was kinder and gave me better advice.. told me I would be okay.
I'm very grateful for the people who helped me understand and come to terms with living with HIV. But I also realized that some people can't be relied on for good information.

I asked : but new drugs can suppress virus.
Yes, this is true.. you are correct.

He told me anyways the delay more the progress to AIDS.
But progress is for granted , slow or fast , whatever pills whatever you do.

And he destroyed my mood.
He gave you misinformation.
THE OPPOSITE IS TRUE.
Effective medication/treatment helps us progress from an AIDS diagnosis, to a healthier person living with HIV

And this is true for many people on treatment.. don't let them bring you down.
If it weren't for treatment, I would've died a years ago.
.
My numbers at bottom here don't lie. And I'm just one of many examples

Thanks all of you...
Really knew this what you told me , just needed the reassurance.
I can really see it goes a bit better by time.
First day I was about to suicide.
Two weeks later feeling some times the same.
Now thinking of this only when feel bad pains in kidneys or when have lower than 4000 WBC.

I know by time we will be better.

But I will follow some other good advice too.
Or mix it.
Imean yes I will live my life everyday as it would be the last..but not really..
I will leave it like that But with careless as Jim told..
Fruits , sleep , rest , happiness , no smoke , no alcohol ...

I feel more confident.
It's t totally right because I like so much whiskey..
I want to drink sometimes a bottle of whiskey with coke.

Hi there...

After reading again disappointed end for Imbokodo trial... And also this
"Only some study participants with low starting viral load became virally suppressed when treated with bNAbs" ..

I am a bit stressed again and disappointed and pessimistic.

According to what is written above in parenthesis , I won't have (also many of us here) the same possibilities of some other guys to maybe suppress virus better ..

With 48 millions starting viral load???

My virus has been suppressed to undetectable for 12 years. I don't know how it could be better suppressed than that. Make sure to take your meds every day and your virus will be suppressed too.

Thanks Dave. Helping but not so much.

A3 is final stage?
What does that mean?
Maybe that's why I had oral thrush ?

I will take my pills.
But please tell me ...
Maybe this happens always in acute phase?
Due to total drop of cd4s and high viral load?

Will I ever be able to recover totally with good pills?
Will I leave more 20-30 years like Leatherman so to be able to see grand children???

Ouf again too much stress....

Or maybe doctor wrote this to justify the economic help from government. Because you take only with cd4 lower than 200 and final stage.

It is just the official technical term in your country to describe your condition on diagnosis. I would not read to much into it. I fully expect you to come back to this thread in about a year's time, read your own posts again, and then ask yourself what all of the worry was about.
Easy to say but hard for you to accept as you are still absorbing the diagnosis. Believe me, the day will come when you don't even give HIV a second thought. The pill you take will be a normal part of your daily routine.

Try not to stress over what Dr's write, especially official paperwork. It would be blunt and to the point just for ease of reading for themselves.

Here's a chart of the CDC classification of HIV. I would note that A3 is not the "final stage".  Untreated HIV resulting in high VL and low cd4s along with an opportunistic infection that has a patient hospitalized could possibly be terminal (meds can and still do save many people even in that dire of a situation) but still would never be labeled "final stage".

(the clinical B column should read "not A or C")
I was a C3 for well over a decade - but for more than another decade I have been an A2

Keeping an official "AIDS" diagnosis (even after a patient has improved) serves two purposes.

1. This data point in your health records gives a notice to any health care provider caring for you to be on alert for how your current health situation might be impacted by you having had a severely compromised immune system. Certain meds, including anesthesia, can be contraindicated for someone who is HIV+ and some health issues may be more likely.

2. The Ryan White Care Act provides for health care, meds, and other services for people living with HIV. Most clinics treating HIV accept lower-income patients by using Ryan White funding. Funding is always based on needs and earnings, so an AIDS diagnosis is one eligibility qualification for patients.

Just as an aside, the big upside to clinics accepting RW funding is that the funding comes with data-tracking and quality requirements. Clinics are required to work towards goals set by local RW quality committees for certain measurements of health. In order words, all clinics accepting RW funds must work towards have specific amounts of HIV+ patients on meds, undetectable, screened for HepC, syphilis, gonorrhea, mental health, missed appointments, timely medical visits, etc. In the spirit of "a rising tide lifts all boats", when Ryan White qualified patients are being taken care of properly, all HIV+ patients (including insurance and self-pays) are cared for better.

As far as living 20-30 years, On Dec 26 I'll celebrate not only my diagnosis; but 29 years of ARVs. In March I'll celebrate not only my 60th birthday; but 24 years since I was lying in a hospital nearly dying of AIDS (for the second time in two years). I haven't been ill from HIV since then, all thanks to the newer meds. With the same body structure and health issues, it's easy to tell that much of my genetics come through my mother from my GrandMother's side of the family. Although the last 6 months have finally taken a huge toll on her health, we just celebrated her 104th birthday. So, even though I've already lived almost those 20-30 yrs you mentioned, I'm really expecting another 20-30 years (or more) from this point in my life.  ;D Really, as long as you adhere to meds, you'll live as long as you always would have based on your genetics and other health issues.

Quote
"A person living with HIV has a similar life expectancy to an HIV-negative person – providing they are diagnosed in good time, have good access to medical care, and are able to adhere to their HIV treatment."
https://www.aidsmap.com/about-hiv/life-expectancy-people-living-hiv

I can't find a link right now but there are articles that discuss how PLWH who have good care and remain adherent may actually live longer lives than others because of receiving better healthcare than those not living with the virus.

I think this question has already been answered by multiple members multiple times within this thread.

The letter is just outlining what you already knew when you were first diagnosed. Nothing has changed in regards to that initial diagnosis and there is no reason to re-panic or re-stress about it.

You are on treatment now, your VL is suppressed, that's it. Keep taking your meds, live a healthier lifestyle if you like. Keep in mind you could be hit by a bus tomorrow or live until you are 90+ years old, plan for the latter.

Hello, hi!
There is no “final stage” of life even with low CD4 & high VL. Once you are given pills, you are as healthy as a normal person because the hiv can’t do any more damage. Just relax & try not to think “what is in your body”. Most important is how are you feeling now? Is the oral thrush gone?
RVD Nov 2015. VL --> Log 5.32 HAART on 23/11/15
TDF+FTC+EFV / Chemo KS - 25/11/15 - 20/01/16.
CD4 - 4 (3/11/15) / VL - 225,000

ojo.           It was November 1994 when I got my  “FULL BLOWN AIDS” dx, 20 cd4, I started treatment January 95, for five more years after my dx, I lived with zero cd4 and high VL due to treatment failure (I got several OIs,the worse for me, CMV RETINATIS, which left me almost blind, no vision in right eye and tunnel vision on left eye with a bad cornea) and, I’m still here…meds in those day, 80/90s weren’t as good as the life saving meds nowadays, it takes just one pill a day to control and suppress the virus…my point, just take your meds as prescribed and try to live your life, follow your dictors appointments and keep yourself busy, even, stay away from these forums until you have learned how to live with hiv, a crónica condition, and come back when you can share your story to help other newly diagnosed members. I think you being reading us is causing you the oposite effects we, here, are trying to offer to other…my humble opinion…wishing you the best

Ps. I acquired this virus in 1986, diagnosed, November 29, 1994 with PCP therefore AUDS cd4=20

There’s life after an hiv/aids dx, especially nowadays.

Hello.. good evening guys. How are you? Are all of you ok?
Hello again.  :D
I'm trying to feel better. I've been under the weather for about 2 weeks but I'm pretty certain it's all stressed related. Although, there was no inheritance from the passing of my 104 yr old grandmother, my two younger brothers have both been a pain in the ass with me and mom because neither, of their own choosing, attended the small funeral. While I know it's not my problem, I am the peacemaker and glue that holds my family together so it has really stressed me. But I've come to grips with it being their problem not mine and hopefully my stomach and guts will catch up to the lessened stress and start feeling and being better soon. ;)

I have started to become familiar with chronic pain. I have small pains in all my body. But I understand it's the condition.
What condition are you referring to? hopefully not HIV. "Small pains" are rarely a side effect of either HIV or the meds, although your body can feel more fatigued or "painful" during times with a high viral load or when adjusting to meds.

speaking of viral load, I noticed that you said, a while ago, that your cd4s had gone from 167 to 276. Did you get a newer viral load count too? With your cd4 count over 200 now, reaching undetectable is the next goal to focus on.

Hellooooo Leatherman.. I'm sorry to hear your grandmother passed away.. if I understood well. Our condolences to you..
Sorry to hear you have to keep balance in your family but my thought is to keep distance from stressful situations..

Yes I know about stressful situations. I have the girlfriend (which I know for a year and we met each other when I was almost ready for divorce with wife). However wife corrected many of bad behaviours and I don't leave easily a family with a very young son...so gf presses me like nothing...
She has right...she feels alone...but I have right toom. I have my health issue to focus on...

As for next tests is in 3 weeks. 4,5 months from starting art or 3 months after first test.

You have right about cd4 s.

ART initiation 10 June - 167 or less cd4s , 58 millions VL | 2800 WBC
1st test           7July -.     276 cd4 , UNDETECTABLE |.  5600 WBC
Blood general test 4 August - ...no data. -  3800 WBC (maybe because of vaccination) I don't know

Do we have some information about something new or innovation about illness control , possible cure on horizon or better treatment?

Thanks guys.
Good night

Wow! That's excellent! In a short amount of time not only did your cd4s get over 200 but your viral load dropped to undetectable. Keep this up (by staying adherent to your meds) and by 6 months, you won't have to worry about transmitting HIV (U=U; undetectable = untransmittable). Great job, keep up what your doing with your HIV medications!

thanks for the kind thoughts. While I miss my grandmother, it's hard to be sad when all I can think about is how she lived a wonderful, full life to 104. I'd like to think that when I reach 104, people will think the same thing about me.

thanks for the kind thoughts. While I miss my grandmother, it's hard to be sad when all I can think about is how she lived a wonderful, full life to 104. I'd like to think that when I reach 104, people will think the same thing about me.

Hahah Leatherman ... Let's go there.... because with your DNA you will go to 204 I think so , our grand children yes maybe think the same for you..for sure , not maybe... 🤗

Guys what about this ?

Do you see any light at the end of the tunnel?

Yes I know., Nobody knows. We just wish and hope.
But I mean..

Does it have any new , better hopes than the Imbokodo trial which failed hard..???

Or are we gonna see soon similar disappointing results here?

Just some thoughts of what maybe you have read..

Good evening

oh, lordy! I hope not.  ;D  But I'd be fine making it to 108. That would be 3 times longer than when that nice hospital doctor told me so long ago that I was probably going to die before morning.

Or are we gonna see soon similar disappointing results here?

can i tell you the same thing I told people 10yrs ago, 20yrs ago, even 30yrs ago?

HIV is a retrovirus and incredibly hard to treat much less cure. It's going to take a lot of time - or perhaps NEVER - to have a cure. So the best option is to simply not stress and worry about some grand solution to HIV, but to take meds and live your life to the best you can everyday. If they finally develop a cure, then you haven't wasted your life stressing; but if they never develop a cure, then you still wouldn't have wasted your life stressing. Of course, I'm not suggesting to not follow the research; just don't let life pass you by waiting on something that might never occur.

I also say one other thing to some people who are adamant that a cure needs to be found - then you need to go into microbiology and help find the cure. The more scientists we have working on the cure, the faster someone will finally figure out a vaccine/cure for retroviruses.

best wishes on your next lab results! I had lab work Tues. and am still waiting for a few results. So far I'm still UD; my white blood cells aren't low anymore; unfortunately my lipids were high (oops. forgot to fast before the blood work); and I don't have tuberculosis (I already knew this but it was a required test for the Ryan White quality program).

Good morning there... How are you all??

Tha is Leatherman for sharing byour thoughts. It's true that we really need to hope. This makes us having a motivattion to live...
Yes , you told people 10, 20 , 30 years ago that not... Nothing changed here? After big technology advances? After so much research?

What about this EBT101???

Sure , I must not stress for life and for cure...

I need it because I'm so much scared of being vulnerable to cancers. This is what I'm terrified for....

Nothing changed here? After big technology advances? After so much research?
oh, things have dramatically advanced.

We no longer have just AZT. PLWH don't have to take 15 pills a day with all sorts of time restrictions - every 4 hours, 2 hrs before food or 2 hrs after food, etc. (I used to have to set an alarm to wake up every 4 hrs, 24 hours a days for meds. Years later I had to have a chart to figure out when to take what). We no longer have to take liquid meds because pills hadn't even been made. We longer have to have refrigerated medications. (although I do miss the mylar foam-insulated bags my meds used to come in. I used those silver bags for Christmas gifts by slapping a bow on the outside. Now I have to buy wrapping paper. LOL)

As far as a cure, I believe everyday we get closer. But HIV isn't just a virus; it's a retrovirus. Several other retroviruses cause cancers. Unfortunately, while we successfully treat a lot of cancers, we still haven't "cured" most cancers. (According to estimates from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), in 2018 there were 17.0 million new cancer cases and 9.5 million cancer deaths worldwide.) Retroviruses just integrate themselves too much into our bodies, and short of killing the patient, it's just very hard to unravel a retrovirus from the system of patients.

If you look through the research forum here, you can see that scientists have been trying to defeat HIV for 40+ years. Every "failure" pushes science forward towards a cure. That's why I suggest people go into microbiology fields. Clearly, it's going to take more time and more people to finally figure out a cure.

Personally, I believe it will be some sort of "kick-n-kill" method (a method to "kick" the latent HIV in the reservoirs into action and then a method to destroy all the HIV) or Crispr will lead to a cure. But what do I know? I'm not a microbiologist; I'm just an almost 60 yr old guy, living with HIV for almost 37 yrs (my HIVaversary is coming up in Nov) who's more worried about my family history of high blood pressure and my rising triglyceride level than HIV.

ojo.              Hi there!…I feel for you my friend, I wish you would stop worrying about what could happen in the future because nobody knows it…as leatherman said, science has advanced so much that lots of people take just one pill a day, to me, that’s a cure, specially now that we know U=U, you even can have healthy babies…after I was diagnosed, I used to search for studies and advances for hiv treatments, I felt hopeful, then, I read that those advances didn’t work, I felt even worse so, I stopped reading studies or possible cures, I decided to wait until my doctor tells me here it is, take this, it’s the cure…cancers, after 27 years of taking meds and even living five years, after my dx, with aids, I haven’t had any cancer but, if I were to have cancer, I will take care of it, that’s it…don’t worry until you have something to be worried about, you know what I mean?, English is my second language…I wish I could find the words to make you feel better and convince you that as long as you take your meds as prescribed, you will be fine, maybe, we will get to be cured one of these days, but for now, live everyday as it was the last day of your life, enjoy life and forget about hiv studies…I have done it for 27 years, you can do it too…hugs

Ps. Leatherman forgot to mention about rutonavir liquid, tasted it horribly

Hello guys... Good morning...
How are you?

Thanks for your answers and support.
I have my kidney, every 5-10-20 days to remind me that something goes wrong there..maybe some small stone or sand...and all this is more complicated when I think of bad things...

In 2 weeks I have new tests for general health for 4 months of initiation pills...

Question please??
Finally, after 10 months here...my girlfriend who I know for a gear and a half, she finally leaves me because I don't leave my wife and family... I am sad last days...she is sad too. We finish it with good relations and good feeling but very sad after we used to see each other 2-3 days per week. We slept together 4-5 times per month.. but she is most of time alone and that's why decided to leave...back to her country Poland.

Can I ask you something? From your experience.
How much does sadness like this can impact my hiv health ( VL, cd4 , cancers etc..) ?

Thanks my friends and brothers!!

Being sad is not going to change your VL. As long as you have been taking your meds you should expect the VL to remain suppressed.

EBT-101 Crispr Cas9 technology
 ;D
Guys what about this ?

What about it? Maybe one day, it might be something, but I would not hold my breath if I was you.

EBT-101 is from Dr. Khalili - Now in 2016 Dr. Khalili & co used CRISPR/Cas9 to remove HIV fragments from a live rodent. The publication led to a number of claims in the media that HIV would be cured within 3 years and some people I know stopped taking their meds (foolish). 2021 and still no cure or advancement in treatment from this.

A 2nd paper was published afterwards that HIV could become resistant to CRISPR/Cas9.

Hello Jim.. how are you? Long time to hear from you!
I read those articles. If I understood correctly there was some suspicions for resistance, but it was written bsome possible way to overcome this obstacle I think...

So Jim. If it was from 2016, did something change by then and so they will start human trials in the end of this year?

Some final question..
Do things run at the same pace like ten years ago ? I mean some hope from AGT , even if it succeeds , they use to tell on the net that gene editing vaccinations may need 15 years of afterwards watching  to get fully approved and shared to public...

So even if AGT succeeds, in 5 years...it will be available in 20 years from now???

......

Did anyone had any problems with mandible? It's many times I hurt my mandible after getting the illness...

Good evening and kisses and hugs

Did something change since 2016, well they are now past the petri-dish/mouse stage and ready for phase 1 testing in humans.

Not sure where the 15 years comes from but presume with AGT you mean the AGT Gene editing? We have a thread on that as well - https://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=73288.msg

How long is a piece of string?

Generally, things take time to develop & test. There are constantly advances in things, I'm sure some things do go quicker than years before but presuming an idea even works in a petri-dish and in animal testing as expected it's still going to take time to get through testing phases to see if it's indeed safe and effective in humans.

So jaw pain?

Sorry to hear that, don't leave it but check with your dentist & healthcare provider. You are going to have health issues along the way just like everyone else in life regardless of HIV status.

oh wow! That makes a perfect metaphor for things like research. I've never heard it before though. It's probably too heady to be some sort of down-home Southern wisdom I might have heard. LOL

Just googled to check, would seem to be a British saying. Although, did not know that and i've heard it in Ireland plenty.

I chuckled.

My grandfather used to calls herons and cranes "shite pokes." As did my father. (My paternal grandfather was born in 1897.) Once I learned much later what "shite" meant, the phrase was utterly perfect after seeing those birds poking around in muck. LOL.

Ah, Éire. So many of us across the pond are still so very close to those roots. Of course, it's all just a hop and skip back to the Olduvai Gorge in the whole scheme of things, isn't it?

==

So this is off topic, but that's how my mind works... If you ever get a chance to do your DNA ancestry testing, I would highly recommend it. It's really fascinating to know your father has ancestral roots back in Scandinavia, or that your mother had north African ancestry, or that you and Ben Franklin are related through his mother's lines.

:-)

Okay, a study of 13 people, why do you think this, as mentioned, this rarely occurring issue will apply to you?

Also, how will only eating veggies, fruits and boiled birds help?

Quote
“As a physician, I am reassured that these events are rare,” Mellors stated. “Although we need to be aware that HIV has the potential to cause lymphomas, it’s such a rare occurrence that there is no need for heightened anxiety now. Clinicians should always screen their patents for cancer as part of routine health care, but people with HIV do not need to fear that they will inevitably develop lymphomas.”

Hi, sorry to see you are still struggling with your diagnosis. It takes a while to absorb the news, some a short while, some longer.

Don't wait for the cancer to come, or the dementia, or Parkinson disease. Or any number of other conditions that are out there that affect anybody, not just us. Nobody living with HIV wanted to be in this position. Nobody wants any form of cancer or degenerative disease, unfortunately it happens. This is the hand we have all been dealt, we just have to play that hand the best we can.

Live healthy, important thing to do, but more importantly is to just live everyday. The biggest cause of death in the world is being born. But we have to be born to enjoy a life.

Relax and enjoy yours. Believe it or not, there are people out there who are in a worse position than you. People who would swap whatever disease they have for HIV so they could take the pills and live.

Take care, Dave
