Taking a tripla 12 hours late twice a week.

HI Guys,

I am really concerned for my partner who takes Atripla each night before bed , i.e. 10.30p.m.
The problem is that he recently started a new job where he works night shift on Saturdays and Sundays. His job involves operating heavy machinery and he says he cannot takes his meds until after he fininshes his shift the following morning i.e. 9.30am. as they make him dizzy and he therefore preventing to carrying out his job.

He says he has spoken to his HIV doctor and he has given him the ok but I don't think his doctor is aware this was/is a weekly occurence.

His meds regimen is as follows:

saturday:-NO Meds
Sunday:-Meds @9.30 am
Monday:-Meds @ 9.30 am and again @10.30 pm ( to make up for saturdays meds!! )
Tuesday-Friday:- Meds @ 10.30 p.m.

I really feel he is at risk of developing resistance to his treatment from all my research on here. CAn you please advise and provide some solid back-up that might help me get through to him?

Would it be a big nono to go see his doctor and speak about the issue? I know he cannot breach patient confidentialty but if i were to speak hypothetically??

If he is undetectable this is no big deal, if he isn't I would talk to the doctor about it, but still probably no big deal.

I am not on Atripla, But I would be curious how he's feeling, after taking a dose @ 9:30, and then another one 13 hours later.  Seems like a lot of drug concentration. When he goes to sleep Monday night, is he getting a good sleep? Considering Atripla is meant to be taken once, in a 24 hour period.

I remember one time when I took a double dose of Epzicom by mistake.  It didn't do me well, and I felt it for the next 24 hours.

Why not try to arrange to go with your partner to his next doctors visit.  My partner always goes with me, and sits right in the examination room with me and the doctor. There's no secrets, everything is out in the open.

I prefer having my partner there with me, and,  he doesn't hesitate to ask the doctor questions, if the need arises.  I certainly don't object to my partner, communication with my doctor.. I encourage him to ask questions,.. helps me out quite a bit actually, especially , when I am having those moments of brain fog.

Have you ever been to a doctor office visit with your partner?

Thank you for your input. When I first found out about my parners status , before last xmas I was devastated ( selfish I know). We talked about it alot and I researched alot on the web. One of the things we agreed on was that I would come along to some of his appointments and I could have a chat to his doctor. Unforntunately everytime I have brought the issue up since he has come up some excuse or other why i cannot go. THis maybe because we are not officially "out".

With regards to taking a double dose of Atirpla, it results in him having a very restless night of tossing and turning , teeth grinding, crazy dreams, etc..
