Another Example of Ignorance
« on: May 20, 2010, 01:18:33 am »
I read this question from someone who says the gay community should face the fact that HIV is a gay disease---his words, not mine.  It isn't that he thinks more gays have it (which isn't true worldwide), he seems to not believe heterosexuals can get the virus.

If you judge a site by the people who post on it, I dare ask what people think of our motley crew in AMI

When I saw the thread title I was tempted to post: Oh, so now you see what I think of 90% of the posts on here every day.

You need to think of AMI as a sewer trap. It keeps the freaks, cyberchondriacs and flat out lunatics who are irresitably drawn to a forum like this coralled up in one place where they can't do too much damage. When AMI blocks up we flush them back out into the drains of the internet like the turds they are.

In that sense, thebody.com is sorta like AMI I suppose.

But there is a considerable point of difference. Whilst the losers who post in AMI are not really that different to the losers who frequent thebody.com for advice, the standard of information provided here is far superior to that which is provided in BobLand.

I have to admit a large majority of the questions to thebody's AMI forum are so insane--such as the question about whether you can get HIV via a fart.  It seems so many are just making up ridiculous questions.  I can't believe that many people would think you can get HIV from a fart, wearing an HIVer's clothing, etc.  Well, I guess I can believe it.

However, I've found the other docs like Dr. Young, Dr. Holodniy, and Dr. McGowan are very helpful and usually get good, serious questions.

I thought my fart question was rather clever the other day.

Dr. Bob is sooooo  1990's. He tells the guy to "wake up and smell the AZT". Ok, it made me giggle, but shouldn't that have been "wake up and smell the Atripla"?

And what's this fart thing? Linkage, please. I didn't go very far back in reading Am I posts that were made during my absence and musta missed it, but it sounds like a must-read and candidate for the Am I Infected Forum Hall of Shame. And the 2010 Pussybear Award.

I don't recall a fart thread in AMI. I remember laying an astonishingly witty zinger on Teddy about his farts here in LW a couple of weeks back.

Nevertheless if there IS a HIV thru farts thread in the S-Bend, I propose we revive the Fortune Cookie Full of Cat Shit Awards.

The fart thing was on thebody's Am I Infected forum.  I believe it won their funniest/silliest question of the year.  See below:

Oh good lord, that takes the (bean)cake. And here I was tut-tutting earlier today over an alleged RN who's been coming here for a few months asking if saliva is infectious.

And this person on tehbodeh is claiming to have a Public Health Masters while asking if farts are infectious?

Do some of these people live in a parallel universe or what? ???

Key word there is "alleged."

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

Well, I think this one takes the cake.  I'm not sure if there is a language issue or what.  I know there are sooooo many things I don't know about HIV.  However, even Lindsey Lohan and I would get the basics.

That qualifies as one of the most fucking stupid questions ever asked.  I seriously cannot stomach reading thebody.

It was. I also had to pay to replace the window said computer sailed through.

Shit happens, eh?

We've had this "can gay sex generate hiv infection?" here before. People love to succumb to the guilt gene.

The ass-hattery does not stop, it should be noted, at the AM I forum. Plenty of folks on the meat N taters side of AM would enjoy playing fast and loose with science as it suits them.

I sit on my hands a lot, instead of typing what I think. Not always, but a lot.

In my mercifully short First-gen Viracept days, I spent more time than I care to admit mortified at the quantity and quality of my gas. You know its bad when all conversation in the car stops, and the rear-seat passenger opens a window. Not cracks. Opens.

I still, thanks to Norvir, sometimes produce chemicals which should be - and possibly will be - discovered on another world. Being mortified is part of the HIV experience. You'd think a person would get used to it. This person, to date, has not.
