this whole Jesus thingy...
« on: April 04, 2010, 01:12:21 pm »
is just beyond me.
I don't get it at all--the whole "died for my sins", resurrection, redemption--it's just so freakin' bizarre to me.
No offense intended to those who believe...I just needed to say it.

I guess I should add, "Happy Easter!", for those of you who do celebrate.

It is kind of bizarre but I can see the appeal. I don't really understand why Christmas is a bigger holiday than Easter. I would think that the Resurrection more important and meaningful than the birth of Jesus.

I kind of envy people who have a strong faith. It must be very reassuring.

The important thing is that it's impossible to disprove and so must be taken on faith alone.  That puts the middlemen in an advantageous position over their clientele.  To doubt their word risks. . . eternal damnation!

I just find it quite hilarious that, in order to make their implausible myths remotely attractive, Christianity needed to hijack pagan moon festivals like Ēostre.

The Easter Bunny hopped by while Santi was putting something in the car. I told him that he just missed the E.B....who left him a Disney DVD and some Rainbow Twizzlers. And it was cloudy so E.B. didn't see his shadow.

Well, candy is better than live animals. When I was 7 my parents gave my younger brother and I two baby chicks, one dyed green and one pink. Within 6 hours the cat was running through the living room with a headless pink chick and the green one died within a couple of days. WORST EASTER EVER!

well, of course. :D Didn't that Peep shirt cut into fringe not just SCREAM, "I'm a redneck from South Carolina"? All it needed was some slogan from Myrtle Beach on the back. ROFLMAO But she didn't mention Jebus or have crosses anywhere so she must be Methodist and not a good Fundamental Baptist. ;)

I really think people use religion to justify every nasty dirty thing they can think to do to other people. Hitler and the Nazi's believe God was on their side when killing jews and homos.
Im for a inner religious belief, but forget about anything organized.
I come from a highly religious family and my dad hates blacks, my mom was anti abortion until my 16 year old niece got PG. Then they couldn't run fast enough to get her an abortion for $150.
So i wonder just what some religious people think their so called afterlife will be composed of?

Or take my first partners family. Real midwest farm folk. High morals. Church every Sunday.
But on Christmas and Easter, they made fun of what they called the EC christians. (E=easter.C=christmas) EC christians only came to church two days a year.
Now you'd think a real heart felt christian would be thankful those people even go to church two times a year, and welcome them. But no..... They made fun behind their backs.

And now the Pope is protecting child molesters wearing church garb.

Yeah organized religion is pretty screwed up.
My motto is a simple 3 words, and quoted from the bible: "Be Christ Like". That's all one needs to know about religion.

Just remember it was at this time during the darkest days of christianity, that, as he was nailed to the cross, and raised up for all to gaze, at his tortured and twisted body, he looked down wearily at his 12 apostles, and speaking with his last gasping breath said unto them....

Don't touch my F*cking eggs...I'll be back on Monday!.

God help all those who have already eaten the eggs..for you will feel his wrath..eventually.. ;)

I don't really understand why Christmas is a bigger holiday than Easter. I would think that the Resurrection more important and meaningful than the birth of Jesus.
Easter is a bigger religious holiday/celebration than Christmas.  People who normally wouldn't attend church, will go on Easter Sunday than on any other Sunday.  But commercially Christmas is bigger and with its links to Santa, you can get other (non-Christians) to celebrate it, making it seem even bigger.

Given a choice of celebrating the birth of a saviour (cute cuddly baby) or a middle-aged man being beaten to a pulp and hung on a cross, only to rise from the dead a few days later....most will, understandably, choose the former.

I believe people should apologize for their sins in this life, account for them, and make up for them. Like alcoholics who apologise for thir shit-storms, and so on.
Why should the church, confession, last rites be able to do this with a couple of prayers.

The religious gene, either you got it or you don't.  Those who don't have it can only find facts within the fiction, and those who do have it can only find the fiction within the facts.  As for Easter, it's the Omega and Christmas is the Alpha.

We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain, moor and mountain
Following yonder star

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy Perfect Light

Born a King on Bethlehem's plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
King forever, ceasing never
Over us all to rein

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

all religions have outlived their usefulness, like the human appendix.  the rcc is a prime example -- disband it, have a big boot sale and use the vast wealth to compensate the numerous victims if its abuse and actually help the poor and those in need.  just one of the pope's dresses could feed a small village in sub-saharan africa for a year.
String up every aristocrat!

I don't know if Sam is an apostle. I do know that he's a neuroscientist who has interesting ideas about some people being hard wired for religious belief.

Most interesting and enlightening.  I aways thought that religion was "Opium for the Masses," but I also felt that some were more influence that others just by the look on their faces.  I always had my small moments of "down and dirty" belief, but luckily for the longer moments of non-belief or just dealing with life.
