i engaged in a high risky and unprotected
« on: September 11, 2017, 12:16:38 pm »
Dear friends thank you for this good work you are doing to advise us on issues regarding our life.
I have a question, but unfortunately my English is not good hoping you will understand me.
On 8th /9/2017 at around 10pm i had a high risky sex, unprotected with a lady I thought was negative, We had sex for some good time and then I ejaculated inside her! And then coming out of her vagina I noticed blood around my Penis and on bed sheets which had come from her, I went into fear and driven to my home (a 15mins drive) I got water and soap cleaned my penis and then the next day at around 5pm i asked the lady her status once again and she said we must go for a test, we went for a test and she was found positive! Doctor I calmed myself down and I rushed to the doctor and immediately the doctor asked me to take PEP (ATAZOR-R and TENOFOVIR DISOPROXIL FUMARATE/LAMIVUDINE which I begun at the 24th hour after the day of my exposure. I am taking it and am ready to finish the dose…
Doctor I am very much worried, what do you have to say about my situation? I have read much on your site but nothing has calmed me down, can you please say something about my situation?
NB The lady yesterday called me to apologize and she stated that she knew her status and she been on drugs since and that she has a man who tests negative always. She says she lured me into unprotected sex because doctors who give her ARVS told her that her virus is down and so she cannot infect other people! This I doubt doctor…
Dear doctor am on PEP but am worried and unfortunately the towel which I used last time to clean myself I forgot and used it yesterday again when I went to the bathroom to dry my body.

Firstly clam down, you are on PEP and PEP has an excellent track record.

HIV is not infectious once exposed outside the human body to the environment. The towel is no risk - none

This I have a few things to say and I will try to keep in short as I know English is not your main language.

1: You choose to have unprotected intercourse, the only person responsible for your health is you. Use condoms going forward.

2: Treatment-as-prevention (TasP) this is use of antiretroviral (ARV) medication to decrease the risk of HIV transmission.

People living with HIV on ART with an undetectable viral load in their blood have a negligible risk of sexual transmission of HIV.  Read here the consensus statement http://www.preventionaccess.org/consensus

3.
You had a risk, as you made the choice to have unprotected intercourse. Nobody can guarantee that the lady is indeed taking her meds and has an undetectable level of HIV so its a risk.

Take your PEP as the doctor has given you, finish the course and test at 6 weeks and 13 weeks post finishing the PEP for a conclusive result. If you take the PEP correctly I suspect that the result when you do test will be HIV negative.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing

Kind regards

Jim

We are not doctors, this site is for people living with HIV and we are volunteers that offer our time to do risk assessments using scientific and peer reviewed publications as reference, we do this as a public service.

I assessed your risk, you had one but PEP has an excellent record and all you can do is take the meds as directed and test as per guidelines.

From the sounds of it the risk was tiny, and combined with PEP I suspect you will be fine when you test.

Take it easy.

Taking HIV meds do not restrict you from working out or playing sport.

Mango water with a splash of passion fruit is not going to be a problem, however if you are concerned speak to a qualified pharmacist or your doctor.

You can also check here for interactions, however keep in mind its not a replacement for pharmacist: https://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.php

Hi

Please do not log mod reports, to answer your question the reason you can not post is because you have used up your free posts.

However there is no point in posting more or buying a subscription as all we can do is tell you to take the pep and test in 13 weeks post finishing the pep.

thank you so much for your replies.
I am very much disturbed and worried having had unprotected sex with a positive lady.
today I was talking to the doctor about Pep and I told him I take my medicines immediately after supper. I finish supper at around 8:55pm and at 9pm I swallow the tablets. Doctor says it would be better to take the medicines one hour after food. now am worried today am taking my 15th dose and have been taking pep immediately after food!
now my question is have I not disturbed the effectiveness of PEP? every super I eat meet, irishpotatoes, rice and pork! is this type of meal not also disturbing the effectiveness of PEP?
every supper I take passion fruits is this type of drink not disturbing the effectiveness of PEP?
Moreso I went to the doctor because I had some pain while urininating and she did the test and she found some pus cells in my urine? is this gonorrhea? she gave me someinjections and antibiotics. are these medicines not disturbing the effectiveness of PEP?
THANK YOU

Hi

Take the rest of the PEP as the doctor advised you, and test, however what you did till now made no difference to the situation, all that remains is to continue your pep and to test.

You are simply overthinking this for no reason whatsoever.

Inching in your eyes has nothing to do with HIV and we don't discuss symptoms here.

I have told you take the meds as directed by your doctor, however don't overthink the situation until now. Simple take the pep and test, i suspect you will be fine.

One word of advice I am not known for my patience, if you shout at me again or anyone from the mod team you will be banned immediately and without further warning.

Depends and varies however in any case it's detectable by 13 weeks hence the testing advice that 13 weeks is conclusive.
