Trey, your predictions match pretty much what I have read for the past few weeks. I think that's exactly how it's going to go.

My own wishlist though:

- Best picture: Avatar

- Director: Cameron for 'Avatar'

- Actor: Collin Firth in 'A Single Man' (I simply can't stand Jeff Bridges, but this one will be his win)

- Actress: Carey Mulligan in 'An Education' (a hopeless wish, but I did not like 'Julie & Julia' and while I really like
"Sandy" I found 'The Blind Side' rather pedestrian and too geared to middle-America PC/BS)

- Supporting Actor: Christopher Waltz in 'Inglourious Basterds' (I guess they just needed to nominate people; the others don't come near his amazing performance)

- Supporting Actress: Mo'Nique in 'Precious' (another category where they just nominated people simply to fill the required five slots)

- Foreign Film: France's 'Un Prophete' (Germany's 'The White Ribbon' will probably take this one though --its director has deserved an award for quite a while, and voters love the film's theme).

And that's that.

Carey Mulligan deserves that statue so much...but she won't win it.

C'mon Matty, she's "America's Sweetheart" (load of crap).

sounds good, let's throw the talentless Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner (or whatever his name is) in the mix and make it a massive beating  ;)

Sandra's now a local for us in Austin. We love her and her three-legged little dog, too!

I haven't seen any of the nominees except for Avatar.  I have Julie and Julia on DVD, but we haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

Up just won for best animated feature. I just realized I saw 3 other nominated pictures, Up, Coraline and The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Sandra is good in some movies. She's hardly talentless!!!
Taylor Swift's album was awfully cute and well-written. She's not just a product.

Speed, Miss Congeniality, Murder by Numbers, Crash.
Movies like The Proposal are very comforting on airplanes. She is a very comforting as a performer. I think she has talent and is very likeable. You are a sourpuss!

I'm 2 for 2 so far.  Those were the two easy ones though.

Also, I liked Sandra in "Practical Magic" although Nicole Kidman can make me hate anything.

I love the post-Cruise Kidman (particularly in 'The Others' and 'The Portrait of a Lady') even though she is so stretched and botoxed nowadays that she can barely express any emotion.

OMG, I can't believe you remember her Judy in 'Bandits'.

One movie where she was (perhaps ironically) bad was 'Australia'.

I hope Johnny Depp bags an Oscar soon. He almost had it from Pirates but lost to Sean Penn's performance in Mystic River.

I'm in the office so I'll have to settle for the replay later.

Some of the 10 films nominated for best picture were hardly oscar worthy, in my opinion....

I haven't seen Precious yet, but it's out on DVD now, so I hope to see it this week.

Julie & Julia was very cute...I like Amy Adams.    Sandra Bulloch:  I can take or leave.

I have not seen Avatar yet; in truth, I just haven't had any desire to see it.   The previews I've seen look kinda silly.   I thought District 9 was great!

The Oscars were pretty predictable this year, albeit for The Hurt Locker, which I enjoyed immensely.

I loved THE OTHERS.
It's all a sham. Politics is a big game, same as the media - and same as religion. The point is to distract & control. If we're looking at what they tell us is the "big issue", we're not looking at what they are doing. In time, there will be different causes and different minorities to pick-on. All in the name of keeping the system going, and the people distracted.

I finally watched Precious last night (hooray for HD on demand!) and I thought it was fairly amazing, and indeed the acting in it was marvelous.  Oddly when I watched it I'd totally forgot about the HIV angle, so when it happened way into the movie it slightly surprised me.
