What new stuff are you watching this fall?
« on: October 14, 2011, 07:01:14 am »
Among the new series, so far, these have made my cut and are still watchable:

Surprised that I really like this, best of the new:
Ringer

Will watch the season:
Prime Suspect
X Factor

Might give up my interest soon:

2 Broke Girls
Pan Am
The "new" Two Half Men

Tried it, didn't like it, giving up
New Girl

Only like it if I sit and watch it because the production and actors are so pretty. But so BAD. Reminds me of Showgirls somehow.
Charlies Angels

Have not tried yet, but will this weekend:
Revenge
Secret Circle
Underworld

____________

I think my favorites are X-factor because its the perfect background to doing housework. Plus, if you aren't looking at the screen, you get to hear how awful everyone is, or the weird creative choices they make, or their ambition. Its funny and sad and touching!  I feel successfully manipulated several times each episode, that is pretty strong TV making.

And Ringer, because there is something "soap opera" and creepy and cheap about it that all feels right.

For entertainment; anything Bravo.  Especially the Real Housewives.

I 'tried' to watch Charlie's Angels last night and only one thing about the show kept my interest... Bosley  ;D

It's interesting how nostalgic and dated the plot felt, though, very reminiscent of the original series or even 80's era MacGyver type shows.

I wonder if that was intentional or simply bad writing?

Something is terribly wrong with Charlies Angels but the casting is spot on and the production values are high enough.  Must be the writing.  I dunno.  I think they wanted cheesey 70's 80's television (no irony) but can you do that now without irony?

I thought the new season of Weeds was a great comeback for the series, it needed a reboot of sorts. NYC makes things interesting, and just when you thought they had run out of plot devices the writers still surprise you.

I am highly anticipating the new season of the Walking Dead. Highly recommended even if you aren't into zombie stuff, its more about the relationship between the characters and their realistic struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, I like that the details of the zombies, how they actually work and the origins of the collapse remain mysterious as their uncovered through the series and used as plot devices. I am a fan of the graphic novel series so I'm happy its been so well done.

The last 2 new episodes of South Park have been disappointing, and I really have liked the last few seasons. Not too worried though, they've proven their ability to get back on the horse again.

Wow, last man standing really blows. I loved Home Improvement because I grew up on it but this is no where near the awesomeness of that. I thought this was gonna be like how great Modern Family was for Married with Children fans, but it seems so far to just be a big fail.

Not coming this fall but I am stoked for Clash of Kings (sequel series to HBO's Game of Thrones) and ANOTHER SEASON OF ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT!

I read reviews about Last Man, saying it was lame ass jokes, homophobic, and mean.

I watched Revenge and I like it.

The thread is about new series, but I guess anything goes....  I didn't start watching Big Bang and Community until seasons 2.

I should check out Walking Dead.

No big loss on the Charlies Angels.  :o

I caught up with the rest of Revenge while cooking today. All the main characters are good performers.  Amber Valletta!  Thank you casting.  Nice to see James Tupper again, loved him in that Anne Heche series...

It's very entertaining.  I didn't enjoy the rip off of Talented Mr. Ripley plot for the Harvard roommate.  Also, the actor is way too old, so maybe they are going to really follow the Ripley Plot there.

I predict Amanda/Emily will have to become partners in revenge with Victoria. After all, Victoria is a complex character and not the 100 evil bitch all the other characters think she is.  It seems the only way the series can continue for more than one season.  Joshua Bowman (Daniel) wow what a dishy WASP.

For the most part I have grown disenchanted with the new stuff. I have found myself DVR'ing reruns of Frasier.

Love Downton Abbey.  We have to wait 'til January for the new season, though.

PanAm lost me at week one.

The premiere of American Horror Story was promising, but week 2 wasn't as strong.

I like the french stewardess and also one of those sisters reminds me of Denise Richards.
I think it it slightly more interesting than the critics who see it as pretty fluff and Mad Men lite.
It reminds me of certain movies from that time, not B Movies, not great art.  Slick glamorous movies that take up some "issues".
