Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

oral risk with dry mouth + lesions

I feel ashamed and stupid and gross .. and very ashamed.. but here goes.

to make a long story short: divorced last month. wife took house and kid. i was devastated and broken, ended up picking up a drug habit (never had one before these incidents) and now think i did something totally stupid.

ended up w/ receptive oral (did not gargle but swallowed)

but had dry mouth and a lot of lesions in mouth due to teeth grinding from 1-2 hours before the sex.

nothing happened except oral. i had NO blood in my mouth. i dont think my sores/lesions were "open" because there was no blood.

he was tested 2 weeks ago (neg for all STIs) but not sure how much i trust him. he did seem clean and is well kept, exercises, etc. just a friend ive known on and off out of state that happened to be there at the time. i barely know him so don't know exactly how high risk he is but he was on spring break last week so who knows what went on??

what should i do? please dont judge.. im completely broken right now and dont need the criticism. what i did was stupid but i just want to know what my risk is and what i need/should do.

i am 28 and he was 24

it has been about 35 hours since this happened so PEP is still an option what do you guys think? please help asap!

You never had a risk of contracting HIV from oral sex.

don't get me wrong. I hope you're right!!

but: semen contains hiv virus copies. my mouth contains sores/lesions that may lead directly to a blood stream. if the two touch there may be some risk.. no?

Your saliva contains over a dozen enzymes and proteins which very effectively prevent the transmission of viable HIV if it is present.

You are worry needlessly. I don't see any need for further concern nor for testing over this incident.

I understand. the problem is dry mouth due to the drug use.

wikipedia:

"Methamphetamine can also cause sores and abrasions in the mouth via bruxism (teeth clenching and grinding), which can turn typically low-risk sex acts, such as oral sex, into high-risk sexual activity."

Look elsewhere for reliable resources, wikipedia isn't in the 100. You never had a risk.

I agree with Rod's latest response to you. The ONLY reason for you to get tested is if you are going to continue to worry unnecessarily about HIV risk from that incident. If so, get tested at 13 weeks past. And of course I expect you to test negative.

The only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. As long as you always without exception use condoms for those activities you will be well protected.
