Yet another Oral Sex Freakout. Please Help!
« on: December 02, 2012, 11:17:09 am »
Hi Guys,

Been reading through the forums and I decided to create an account and post my question.

Alright:

So I gave unprotected oral sex to a dude when I was in Australia, he told me he was clean (which I hope he was not lying), he did not cum inside my mouth but some amount of pre-cum did enter my throat and mouth. The oral sex lasted for about 15 minutes. What concerned me was that I do have abit of an issue with bleeding gums (i don't think my gums were bleeding when I gave him the blowjob) but that was the bit that is nagging at the back of my head.

Furthermore as I look through the internet, the debate on whether Oral sex can give you HIV seems to be incredibly contentious.

I don't think I got HIV right?

A) Having read the forums, you know that the term "clean" is offensive. Cut it out. I have HIV and I LITERALLY just got out of the shower.

B) You have not had a risk.

C) Unless you are fine giving unprotected oral to HIV positive guys, then the vetting process should be a lot more than simply taking a person's word for their status before chowing down. Some people don't know they are positive. Some are recently infected. And some choose not to disclose.

Regardless, oral sex is not a viable transmission risk unless your partner's viral load is sky high AND your oral health is something out of a horror film. Google "Meth Mouth" and you will see a theoretical example.

I say "theoretical" because oral transmission has never been firmly documented in any study other than patient report after the fact, which is notoriously unreliable.

Study after study of serodiscordant couples over the last fifteen years where the partners use condoms for anal/vaginal intercourse but NO BARRIER for any type of oral sex have yielded exactly ZERO infections linked to oral sex.

This is not a legitimate HIV concern.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

Sam,

As JK mentioned, oral hasn't been shown to be the problem many think it is. All you really need to do in order to protect your hiv negative status is to use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv.

There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST SPECIFICALLY OVER ORAL, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Ann

Hi guys,

Apologises for resurrecting this topic but I have a question to ask.

What are the chances of contracting HIV from protected anal sex?

As long as condoms are worn properly everytime by the insertive partner condoms provide proven effective protection against the transmission of HIV. The key thing is for the head of the penis to remain covered throughout intercourse.

Make sure of that and you don't have to worry.

Alright! Thanks!

I was wondering because I read around that some doctors stating that there is still some risk involved with protected anal sex.

I ask because I engaged in protected anal sex on a couple of occasions with me being on top but if i'm not wrong, as long as the condom is on and doesn't break (which it hasn't), I am fully protected from HIV correct?

I intend to get tested asap but just wanted some clarification.

Thank you all!

Then I suggest you find doctors that are knowledgeable in HIV transmission.

Just to get a peace of mind, I went to get tested and came back with a negative result.

Peace of mind achieved.

I just wanna say thanks to the moderators who took the time to patiently read and answer my questions and again apologise for my accidental usage of the term "clean".

Thanks so much!

Hi,

So recently I met up with this guy and went over to his house. He wanted to have unprotected anal sex with me (with me being the bottom) and I stopped him from going any further. He did however tried to push his penis into my asshole and while I felt there was no complete penetration, i could feel the head of his penis slightly entering me.

There was no pre-cum on him before he tried to enter me.

I've been tested negative and he said he has as well but i can't help but overthink. Is there a risk here?

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer.

We get this question allot … people asking how much raw penis is a risk for HIV . My answer always is if you are not sure if you were penetrated or they just dipped in a bit then go test for peace of mind. You can read about testing here …
