Extra Atripla available to folks in need
« on: September 23, 2017, 03:00:16 pm »
I have switched from Atripla to Sustiva and Descovy.
I now have 6, unopened, bottles of Atripla that I no longer need.  3 bottles are "use by" end of Feb. 2018 and 3 are "use by" end of May 2018

If anyone finds themselves in need of some Atripla, please PM me.

I am NOT SELLING -- I am offering these up to people who need some assistance to bridge a gap in their med supply.  Hopefully I can help 6 people fill such a gap.

thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I keep getting told by people to switch from Atripla as there are new Rx's.  What made you decide to switch?  Don't need to answer if you don't like too.

Thanks,
Kenneth

Well, the only thing I'm really switching is the old formulation of Tenofovir to the new formulation.  The new Tenofovir in Descovy is supposed to be "easier" on kidney and bones than the old formulation.  I've not had any issues with either my bones or kidneys, but after almost 12 years of taking it, I thought I'd give my body a break.

So -- ultimately, I'm not switching up much -- they just haven't come out with a "new" Atripla that has Descovy as one of the 3 components.

The big reason many switch from Atripla, is the Sustiva component.  It can cause some serious mental health issues for some people.  As far as fighting HIV goes -- Atripla is a VERY good combo - but there are many new combo's that are also VERY good without having these sort of side effects.

For me -- my doc and I have discussed switching away from Sustiva -- but I'm actually taking 4 different drugs (5 if you count the Norvir boost) -- Sustiva, Descovy  (which is 2 drugs), and Reyataz.  This is because my virus came with some low level resistance to almost all the Nukes and I simply couldn't get to UD with Atripla alone.    We talked about going to Genvoya, but then I'd be taking 2 boosters (Norvir and Cobicistat) and we didn't want to do that.  So, rather than mess things up, I decided to stick with (mostly) what has worked for me all these years.  At least for now, but will continue to discuss with my doc.

Hope that helps
Mike
