Concerned...please help!
« on: August 25, 2008, 10:23:08 pm »
Can you please help me understand my risk for HIV transmission.  Two nights ago I was out drinking with
friends and did something stupid.  I met up with a sex worker I found online.  We did Not have any kind of penetrative sex.  She massaged my penis with some lube to get me erect and then put a condom on me and performed oral sex.  While she was doing that I did touch her vagina a little bit but never inserted my fingers...just touched her externally.  I ejaculated in the condom...the concern is because after I
ejaculated and went to remove the condom I noticed that I had a small cut at the base of my penis.  I know it happened as I was getting undressed.  It was pinched in the zipper of my jeans when I took them off but since I had been drinking I didn't pay much attention to it.  It was a cut and may have bled...there was just a little spot of blood (like from knicking yourself shaving) a very small spot.  There was no blood anywhere on the condom or anywhere else that I could tell   So, my question is:

1. The small cut on my penis was near the base and I am not sure that it was covered by the condom.  What if her gums where bleeding and her saliva/blood would have dripped down the shaft as she was performing oral and onto this area?  Does this put me at risk?

2. Is there a risk of other STD's here?

Please help.  Just a little freaked out because can't believe I did this.

Thanks!

You are not at risk for HIV transmission. Salvia is a potent inhibitor of HIV. Go to the Welcome Thread and read the lessons on HIV transmission.

Hi, I feel your pain. Please at least get a test to see if you are HIV positive.
your local ASO should provide some counseling on this matter. It is not worth it to wait, Get tested.

Safetyguy..I see no need for you to worry over this incident..as Altq said please read the Welcome thread on how HIV is and is not transmitted..I recommend annual or bi-annual STD testing to all those who are sexually active..take responsibility for your health and do the right thing...and remember Condoms at all times...NO EXCEPTIONS.

I read the lessons and if understand that oral sex is basically considered no risk. And since I had a condom on, my only concern comes the fact that I had this small cut that may not have been covered by the condom.  Would you say that in this scenario, I should not be concerned.  I get tested annually and my last negative test was 6 months ago. This is the only incident since then.

Thanks!

Even without a condom this incident would not have been risky. I don't see any need for testing.

Keep using those condoms for intercourse and having the annual checkup.

Ann or Andy,

Can just ask a question of understanding?  I now understand that saliva on it's own is not a way of transmission.  However, if the persons gums had been bleeding or something and this small cut on my penis was not covered by the condom, what is it that still makes this a no risk situation?  Is it because the cut was on the base of my penis and it was never inserted in either her mouth or any other part of her body?  If she was infected and blood infected saliva had dribbled down the shaft to this area, would it no be risky because the fluid was outside the body at that point?  Just really trying to understand.  I did call the local HIV testing clinic and explained my situation and they also said this was really no risk.  Thanks for any clarification you can provide.  I think I have learned a lot in the last few days.

sg,

Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

Getting a blowjob, with or without a condom, is NOT a risk for hiv infection. Not one person has ever been infected this way and you won't be the first.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple. Read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence.
