HIV status concern
« on: November 21, 2016, 06:49:31 pm »
Hi, I am 19 years old. I am a female and have been with three sexual partners, all male. The first guy I was ever with was last year. Before me he was very sexually active as I was his 10th sexual partner. We used condoms everytime although one time one did break but it was before he finished. I also gave him blow jobs quite often and always swallowed. He also tried unprotected  anal with me one time but he didn't even get it all the way in before I told him to stop and we didn't do it any more. After a few months of being with him I had vaginal problems with bacterial vaginoisis and yeast infections. I have very bad anxiety and was convinced he gave me genital herpes even though I didn't ever have any sores. At this time, it was about two months from the first time I had sex with him and I got tested by a vaginal swab and the results were negative for the things the swab tested for. Although it did not test for HIV. I was also diagnosed with bronchitis and was having headaches and insomnia and anxiety and back pain but I was also worrying myself to death over thinking he gave me herpes. Time went on and I hooked up once with a guy and used a condom and he performed oral on me after that. I continue to have bacterial vaginosis and yeast infection problems to this day. Now, I am currently with my boyfriend and we have been sleeping together for about 4 months. He has been with 10 girls before me and does not use a condom until he is ready to finish. About a month ago he had a cold sore and I kissed him anyway and I got one. I also got lesions in my mouth and throat and was sick for 2 weeks. The doctor said this was because I had never contracted hsv as a child and primary infection can be worse in adults. So all the time I spend for almost a year worrying and convinced I had it from my previous partner was for nothing because I just recently got it. But after a week of being better I spent the weekend with my boyfriend and we drank a lot of alcohol and stayed up till early in the mornings and after that I got a few more lesions back in my throat. I read online that after the primary infection unless someone is immune system compromised this should never happen again. Someone told me it could be possible that the hsv virus could have really weakened my immune system as I lost 10 pounds from it and couldn't eat or drink for the duration and I didn't give my body enough recovery time for the virus to fully go away and it was still in my throats and that's why it seemed to come back. But I'm concerned of my risk of HIV from my first partner (who as far as I know is of unknown status) because of my vaginal problems and now that I got the hsv virus so badly and that it came back when it shouldn't have. Every infection or sickness I have I instantly think it may be because of hiv from my first partner and I am scared I could have possibly given it to my new partner if I would have it.. my anxiety over this is killing me as it has before. Does anyone think I could have it? I can't remember after sleeping with my first partner if I ever had the flu like symptoms but I really don't think I did but I did get told by the doctor I had bronchitis so Idk if it could have been that. I never had a rash or anything. I'm just very scared and appreciate any help

Hi

Cold sores (Herpes) will come and go. That's normal, outbreaks will happen.
Very different virus, transmitted to different cells and nothing to do with HIV not even sure why you're mentioning it.

It does not matter who your partner slept with or with how many people before you. Simply start protecting yourself by using condoms and not just for "finishing" but during the whole intercourse.  Unprotected intercourse is a real risk for HIV transmission.

Use condoms from now on and test for STI's including but not limited to HIV at least yearly and since you had a risk testing soon would be recommended,
Guidelines are to test at 6 weeks past any incident and then at 13 weeks to confirm the result. Testing Information can be found here:
HIV Testing

The symptoms you posted have nothing to do with HIV and we don't discuss symptoms here. Please don't post about symptoms and talk to a doctor if you are sick to treat whatever is making you ill.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information can be found in my signature including some basic information on:
HIV Testing & HIV Transmission and Risks

Kind regards

Jim
