Possible condom breakage
« on: February 18, 2015, 12:44:54 pm »
Ok. So I am extremely distressed right now and need some well informed advice.

Heres what happened:

This past Sunday, I went to a massage parlor where I ended up having sex with one of the girls there. There was a condom involved but I dont know if it broke or not. The condom used was provided by her and the reservoir seemed very small. However, I didn't think much of it at the time and continued. She put it on me and proceeded to give me oral sex for a small amount of time. Than she got on top and rode for for less than a minute, upon which i ejaculated. She didnt seem to notice and proceeded to keep going for another few seconds until i told her to stop. When she got off, the semen seemed to have been 'smashed around' inside the condom, with very little in the reservoir (it looked like a circle of white on the top of my penis). I couldnt tell if anything came out. However, I do not know if it broke and did not get the chance to check it since she immediately removed it with tissue paper. I didnt notice any spillage anywhere on my body, save for two droplets that fell out onto my pubic hair when she removed the condom. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Condoms are designed as to leave no doubt when they fail so you would have known since you admit you saw the semen in the condom . The important thing was that your penis tip was covered . You did not have a risk for HIV .

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI.Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Although you did not have a risk and do not need to test for this specific incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thank you for the speedy reply. However, I jst wanted to ask one more thing. When I said I saw semen inside the condom in a ring shape, what I meant to add is that I'm not sure if any of what I saw was actually OUTSIDE the condom. If it did indeed break, what is my risk, at worst?

The condom did not break, you would have known if it had . If the condom failed it would have split or had a LARGE shred down the side .

If you can’t accept you did not have a risk you can go test for peace of mind … you can read about testing here… http://www.aidsmeds.com/articles/HIVtests_5029.shtml

Thanks again for the quick reply. I did see a doctor and he said he wouldn't reccomend pep because he thought there wasn't enough risk (although he did say if I really wanted it, he could prescribe it, but he also mentioned the risks of the powerful pep medication outweighing the benefits).

In any case, thanks again. Sometimes multiple opinions from reputable sources really help people cope with anxiety. I really admire you guys-- keep up the good work.

Hi again--I am back with a bit of an update, and some questions.

Per my last post I was feeling fine minus the anxiety, so I opted to get a full std panel with an hiv RNA test at 11 days--just to ease my mind (and because I havent had a full std workup in years). These subsequently came back negative/ not detected/non-reactive. A week or so later I developed a canker sore on my inner lip which presented with a tender lymph node under the same side of my neck. With this, I started noticing a strange effect on my tongue--the top in the back and sides were inflamed and some of the lingual papillae were shedding. I proceeded to make it bleed by removing one that hurt on the right side, and simply kept an eye on it. A few days later, my canker sore started to heal, but my tongue was still inflamed. This time the left side was doing the same thing as the right side. I (moronically) scratched the hell out of it, making it bleed, and tearing up the papillae. My tongue was very sore for the next few days. The canker sore has since healed--however, two days ago i developed a sore throat with bloody mucous (mucous with small amounts of blood). The sore throat came on suddenly while I was outside helping a friend fix his motorcycle. I have not yet presented any fever, save for a few slightly elevated readings (99.4 or less).

I did an Oraquick test yesterday (22 days) that came out negative.

I know I am probably being paranoid but I dont know whats happening to me,and I'm deathly afraid of passing the virus on to my wife if I have it. The anxiety of not knowing 100% is killing me, and unexplained sickness/symptoms is certainly not helping.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You never had a risk ... if this is your only concern in the past 3 months then you can count your test as conclusive ... you do not need to test again .

Your symptoms are not specific to HIV and could be from anything so if you are sick go see a doctor and find out why, its not HIV and we do not discuss symptoms .

We cant pretend you had a risk so its really safe for you to move on and put this behind you .

@Jeff:

I know I am probably just paranoid but I am getting sicker. I have a standing fever of 99.7-100.1 and my throat (which now has scabbing) hurts like hell. I have little to no appetite and I'm sweating like a dog. I went to the hospital and they tested me for strep and got a wbc count. The doctor told me my wbc count was high, gave me pencillin, and sent me on my way.

Since then I noticed a new canker sore developing near where the old one used to be. I tried to call the girl in question several times over the past 2 weeks but they keep telling me she's on vacation--when I asked today when she might be back, I was told it was a 'long vacation' (?!?!?). I realize this could mean anything, but it was hard to swallow nonetheless.

I went ahead and ordered another rna test to try and ease my mind, but the results won't be back for several days.

I'm so scared.... I don't think I could live with myself if I infected my wife...

Because you are operating out of a mistaken mindset that you have an HIV problem you are seeing everything that happens to you as another confirmation that HIV is the issue. You are conclusively HIV negative. Period. End of story.

There is nothing more we can do for you here and we can't diagnose what is causing your symptoms.

Forget about tracking down that woman. She is none of your business. You had sex with her by choice. You are a grownup who is responsible for your own health. You should be talking with a doctor to get a diagnosis of whatever the problem might be. For sure it isn't HIV.

Cut it out and get on with your life.

I don't know if it makes any difference, but one detail I forget town to mention was that she put the condom on me--instead of rolling it down she spread it open like a hairband and pulled it down.

No, it does not matter, as you NEVER HAD A RISK.  If you continue to post about this no risk incident, you will receive a Time Out.  The purpose of the TO is so you will seek professional help concerning your issues, help that we cannot provide in this forum.  This is a warning!

No time out please--I just had a simple unrelated question that I must post here because I am not allowed to post anywhere else.

Regardless of how my status turns out, I would like to contribute to this community--aids activism should not be confined to just those who have it, and if this experience is telling me anything it's that I should get involved. Please let me know if there's any way I can contribute.
