Is this something to be concerned about
« on: December 20, 2008, 03:12:23 pm »
Hi

Again, I'm not sure if this is in the right category but I have often seen the same response from Ann in her replies to people in this category that I had a question about.

Her reply to people is regarding saliva saying that not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

My question is that I realize that there is no risk with saliva, however, if I am performing oral sex on a guy who is HIV + and he has precum, are you saying that if I did happen to get any into my mouth that my saliva would damage the hiv that can be contained in that small amount?

I have read the Welcome threads on how HIV is transmitted, however after seeing the response from Ann regarding saliva and how it has over a dozen enzymes and proteins, I just wanted to get a little clarification on that.

Thanks again for an awesome site and Happy Holidays to all!

Several scientific serodiscordant studies have shown that there has never been a negative partner turn positive when condoms are used for anal and vaginal sex and no condoms were used for oral sex.

Yes, that is exactly what Ann is saying about the effective barrier to HIV which your saliva creates. Theoretically transmission is possible orally. But in the real world of HIV, the reports of transmission in that manner never hold up under scientific scrutiny.

At the same time common sense dictates that you not give oral if you have a gaping wound in your mouth, but then doing that in such a circumstance doesn't seem a likely scenario.

Cheers.

Could this be a risk....

Happy Holidays all...

In as much research that I have been doing on this site, I have a question that I don't seem to find that was brought up.  My question is as follows...may also be a bit embarassing but I figured I really shouldn't be.  I'm sure we have all experienced this, however if a guy has a bowel movement and he cleans himself and notices little specs of blood (from either rough tissue paper, cleaning too hard, type of bowel movement - nothing as extreme that would require medical care) and say someone that is HIV + happens to rim him (a HIV - guy) a few hours later is there any risk for the HIV - guy?  I would tend to think no since it isn't a lot of blood where it is gushing and I would be assuming that the HIV + guy doesn't have any open sores in his mouth.  Maybe I am answering my own question, but figured I would ask.

Thanks to all!

Getting rimmed by anyone, with or without a bloody tush, is absolutely not a risk for HIV transmission. For either partner. HIV is a fragile virus and requires the very receptive setting which unprotected vaginal and anal INTERCOURSE provide.

Given the anus being the germiest orifice in the body, rimming is a risk for other STDs, but not HIV.

Cheers.

Is this something to be concerned about

Hello:

I have been with my boyfriend going on 9 months.  He is HIV + and I am HIV -.  He is on meds and is virtually undectable.  My question is this.  The other day I was brushing my teeth, and I usually brush hard, therefore sometimes I irritate the gums and you can see a slight trace of blood when I am brushing - it isnt gum disease or anything of the sort.  Anyway, about 10 minutes later, my boyfriend came over to me and we were kissing - pretty passionately. I was just concerned if there was any risk. I have read everything in these forums and I dont think there was a need to be concerned, but I just wanted to make sure.

As always, thanks.

Kissing is NOT a risk for hiv infection, not even if you just brushed your teeth. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

If no one ever asked embarrassing questions, none of us would know much, would we? Thanks for asking.
