Hi 3 days ago i picked up a prostitute an she performed unprotected oral sex on me, i understand there is very small risk of hiv, is this still true if she had cuts in her mouth or was a drug user? If she had very small cuts could traces of blood got into the tip of my penis? Sorry for asking so many questions its just my gp said it holds some risks and wanted a second opinion.

You never had a risk of contracting HIV by receiving a blowjob.

No, there wasn't a "very small risk." There was no risk.

In the entire history of the epidemic no man has been confirmed to have been infected through getting a blowjob. It's one of the most common of sexual activities and no matter what details you throw into the mix, we would have known long before today if there was any risk. There isn't.

There's no need for further concern about HIV on your part.

Other STDs are much easier to acquire which is why we recommend that anyone who is sexually active ought to at least once a year have a full STD panel done.

Thanks andy that sounds reassuring. So i dont need to test myself over that situation. Just my gp said i may be at risk, so getting different info can be worrying as im sure you will appreciate.

Im sorry, ive just got myself really worked up, and when you get like that you begin thinking what if what if!!!! Wondering that you will be the one person it does happen to, regardless of whether i was at risk or not this has changed my views on all sex. Im sorry to have annoyed anybody.

Hopefully i will get it in my head that from this situation it was impossible to catch hiv.

Just to ease my worries then, if any of you guys were in the same situation as me with regards to this you wouldnt bother getting tested? And i really will take this answer now as i dont wish to get a site warning, thanks again

That's right - if you had been at risk, we'd make sure you knew and knew to get tested.

Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

Stop worrying about cuts or whatever in her mouth. Unless you're in the habit of repeatedly punching a person in the mouth before they blow you, there could not possibly be enough blood present to be a concern.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST SPECIFICALLY OVER A BLOWJOB, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Why is there so much conflicting info regarding this subject as ( and im not arguing back im just curious) some people/ doctors/ sites say it does carry a risk?

We're not responsible for what others are giving out about HIV transmission. Unfortunately many sites and healthcare providers are simply not up-to-date about HIV.

I'll just say we are very careful about our comments and what we tell you is current and grounded in HIV-science.

If you test hiv positive, it will not be due to getting a blowjob. It would be due to unprotected intercourse (or needle sharing) you've had at some point in your life that you have not told us about.

If you reported risky activities, we'd tell you. You can count on that.

I am rarely 100% anything, but I am 100% certain that you will not get HIV from receiving a blowjob.

Soto post again but its been almost 2 weeks since the incident i told you about and ive developed a sore throat. This has got me worried as i know this can be a sign of infection. So scared ill be the exception. Hopefully its just stress

Its now 14 days since what i told you about, you told me i had no risk but can stress and worry give you these symptoms. It's cold and flu season. So you got a sore throat, so what. It's nothing to do with hiv as you did NOT have a risk for hiv infection.

You got a no risk blowjob. Big deal. Get over it.

If you continue to feel unwell, see your GP.

If you cannot bring yourself to believe us when we say you did not have a risk, go test, collect your negative result and move on with your life.

Today i had a duo test and it came back negative, 5 weeks exposure.

You're welcome. No surprise here with that negative result but still, a negative result is always a happy thing.

Now move on with your life and remember if and when you get around to having either vaginal or anal intercourse, be sure that a condom is used everytime. Those activities unprotected are the only real risks for the sexual transmission of HIV.
