Shouldn't they be our saviours?

Bloomberg and Gates commit $500 million [...] to implement proven interventions to reduce tobacco use

I.e. $500 million thrown away, in the teeth of HIV research!

WHAT A COUPLE OF ID**TS!

Nonsense. Tobacco use is the second leading cause of death and already claims about five million lives a year worldwide. That number has been projected to double by 2020, with more than 70 percent of these deaths in developing countries.

The Gates Foundation funds a variety of global health issues, HIV being one of them - good for them too.. ::)

Who cares? Personally, I'm not interested in good (prohibitionist) advice, but in remedies!

Do you really think that HIV, which KILLS eros and therefore life, is comparable to tobacco, a great pleasure that leaves you free and unworried until you find out you have a lung cancer?
If so, you're the PERFECT successor of Bill Gates. Write immediately to MS!  ;)

I'm not sure that I understand your point with this post?  Are you saying that money should only be going to HIV and not to any other issues?

Yes, it really is all about you, isn't it? Doesn't take much to imagine what you would be arguing money shouldn't be spent on if you weren't personally affected by HIV.

Not at all!

I was only saying that:

- promises are to be fulfilled
- there are priorities
- $500 million spent in dumb-ass things are wasted (I would have written completely different things if this sum had been set aside for lung cancer cure research, for instance).

So I guess money invested in HIV prevention is "dumb-ass" too?

Still not getting the point.  What "promise" is not being fulfilled?  What makes HIV a greater priority?  Why is this a dumb-ass thing to spend the money on?
AIDS isn't for sissies.

I am sure my friend that has colon cancer would love to have some of that money as well, due to the fact that it has spread to his liver and femur he probably could use it fast. It's not all about us. Some of the people that have terminal cancer would trade places with some of us anyday. I am not trying to say our situation isn't serious, and doesn't need attention, but we are not the only people out there with health issues.
