agreed. it was nice having some faces to put to the characters - although none off those were the faces I had imagined. LOL The books, as they usually are when compared to movies (due to time constraints, internal dialogue, and exposition), are always better.
oh, and i detest audio books. I can read soooo much faster than anyone can speak. give me the paper/ebook version any day.

The only way to make a road trip is to do so while being read a book. It's fantastic.

I carnt believe you queens just said that. You lose major geek points with me. This is one of the few books that I have loved (the entire saga is surprisingly good, even though it isn't "high art" --compared to poorly written shit like Twilight and that whatever many Shades of Grey garbage it becomes Mark Twain) and which has had a very good film adaptation.
So boooo to both of ya :P

I didn't see the movie yet.
Audio books are great if the actor knows how to do it. Driving and also cooking and cleaning.
I liked all the analogies and references in The Hunger Games to contemporary society and current events.
I liked the way the narrator describes the Capitol and its citizens. Seems quite like a mixture of OZ's Emerald City , Show Biz, and the 1%. And everyone is subject to them.

I subscribe to Audible and listen to books when I am commuting or doing chores but I read the Hunger Games series. The narrator can make or break an audiobook. I thought the Hunger Games movie was well done. I wasn't sure how the director was going to portray the violence, because it could have been extreme, but it was handled well. The movie was filmed in North Carolina, so the setting was familiar and how I envisioned it, but all the characters were prettier in the movie than in my imagination.

Oh yeah the movie was ok. I mean I was touched with the Rue scene and I did see it twice, but meh.

On a separate note, since you mentioned Rue, did you read about the controversy when the movie first came out (with some moronic heads complaining about the fact that she was black)? Some idiots claimed that they would not see the film because of this. Like, really!!??

Idiots. I envisioned Rue as black when I read the book because she is described as having dark brown skin and eyes. Interesting how some people choose to overlook certain details.

Yeah I did read about it. I expected Rue and the other guy to be black or hispanic, I did not expect Cinna to be though. although I think Lenny Kravitz more than exceeded my expecation on that character.

I'm on the last book now. I was really surprised in the 2nd book, that the main plot is a new turn in the arena!
A couple of times in the first chapters of the 3rd book I get the impression the author is letting Katniss turn into a deluded reality star herself. Its all very Pfc. Jessica Lynch and US war propaganda. But then this gets dropped and Katniss is purely heroic again.
