Title: Charity, anyone?
Post by: minismom on April 12, 2008, 04:37:27 pm
Hubby made a great observation the other day.  He reminded me how much better I feel when I do things for other people.  One of the things I enjoy doing is crocheting.  I've crocheted booties for newborns, slippers for kids in the hospital, blankets for homeless shelters, hats for cancer patients, and "lovies" for Red Cross and Salvation Army to give out to disaster victims.

Hubby's observation got me thinking.  There are several of us here who crochet, or knit.  Why not make stuff to give away. Hospitals are always eager to receive things for their patients, as are nursing homes, battered women's shelters, homeless shelters, and a number of other local charities.  Baby blankets done in "adult" colors would make awesome lap blankets for a local AIDS hospice. Slippers, hats, scarves, and even teddy bears would be great ideas, also.  There are lots of websites that offer free patterns, just google "crochet+patterns+free".  I have some favorites if anyone would like them.

So, ladies, what do you think?  It's a very easy way for the Positive Women to make a positive impact.

Mum, this is a great idea.  I, however, do not do any of those things.  I hope you get some takers.

I think it is a great idea too.  Unfortunately, I don't do any of them either.  I know when the trips were in the NICU they all got the tiniest hats that they wore all the time, in fact that is how I can tell the pics apart , by the color of the hat.
I can keep my eye out for yarn sales, I know we have an outlet around here, to get the needles at too.
Good Luck,
Snow
