Mad man at the mall!! Please please help!!
« on: November 19, 2013, 01:34:21 pm »
Hi,

I recently had a horrifying incident occur at the restroom in a mall and would appreciate your help in resolving my query. I have not had any other exposure apart from the incident mentioned below.

I went to wash my eyes in the restroom at my local mall. I thought i was alone and was rinsing my face and eyes. Then i suddenly felt a drop of liquid hit me on my face at the edge of my lips. I turned around to see a crazy man with his penis flailing about pointed towards me. He seemed to have come out of one of the stalls in the restroom. I reported him to the mall authorities. However i am worried because i did not check what the liquid was that fell on my face. I am assuming it was semen or blood.

Now my main worry is that while washing my face my mouth was partially open. A few drops of the liquid probably fell into my mouth as well. I rinsed my face and mouth with water multiple times as soon as this incident occurred but i have read that HIV does not die in water.

If this mad man was HIV+, am i at risk if a few drops of semen/blood went in to my mouth? Should i get tested and what kind of tests should i get done? I did not have any cuts in my mouth at the time but had very dry lips which were just wet with water.

Please please help me as even my wife is scared after this incident and i want to be sure about my situation before i even think about touching my wife.

You never had an exposure.

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

HIV is transmitted by;
Unprotected penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex
Sharing works with other IV drug users
Mother to child

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I would like to ask one more question to be able to better educate myself and my wife.

Is HIV transferable through the mouth? I have read a lot of contradictory messages online and you guys seem to be the most well informed. Can the mouth be the point of entry for HIV? I ask only because I felt a few drops of the liquid go in to my mouth.

RapidRod explained why HIV becomes inert once outside of the human body.

You did not have any exposure, no matter how you want to frame your story.

Joe
