Title: Rant - my crappy digestive system
Post by: GSOgymrat on April 16, 2007, 11:37:39 am
I've spent months eating 6 times a day on diet to gain weight and managed to gain 10 lbs. I went to Rome with my partner for a couple of days, didn't follow the diet, had a recurrence of diarrhea and within a week have lost 8 lbs. I'm so frustrated!  >:( My digestive system hasn't been normal since my HIV infection. I've been eating very healthy and consuming way more calories then should be required to maintain this weight. I'm not wasting or anything but it is aggravating that my digestive system doesn't process food very well. I won't even go into the awful problems with gas, which like the episodes of diarrhea are nothing new. This isn't a plea for advice but just a scream into cyberspace.

Hey Ford

Just to let you know your scream was heard in London. It sucks and I hope it improves for you. I was terrified during seroconverion, as I had a lot of diarrhoea and thought I might stay that way. I was so happy when it stopped.

GSOgymrat, look into taking Pancrecarb.  It is a pancreatic enzyme that helps with gas and bloating, and decreases diarrhea.  It's also a prescription so it should be covered like your other meds.

I got "loose stools" for a couple of weeks recently and 2 weeks ago I bought a water cooler (with a mirror so I can have a chat by the watercooler with myself), and started drinking way more water than I used to, to almost a gallon a day. Result: bloating and total constipation for 3 days.. So I reduced the amount of water and now I can enjoy the bathroom again.

I'm sure you drink a lot of water given your daily exercises, so I don't know if increasing a bit would help or not, just my 2 cents.
