IM GOING CRAZY
« on: December 04, 2007, 01:52:18 am »
Well let me start of by saying this site is amazing and very informative for people going through hard times in there life. You should all know that you should be saints in this world. Anyway I have read many past responses in the forum but wanted advice. I had unprotected vaginal sex and got a hiv test six months after the exposure and was negative, but like five weeks before the test I had oral sex with a girl that i know, i asked her if she would get a hiv test because i was so worried about it. She tested negative..... After that i started freaking out one day because i bought a earring at a store and didn't clean it and put it right in my ear, my girlfriend at the time is calling me crazy, and that she does that all the time, i just was wondering is there any risk here for HIV, and is there any way a HIV test could come back with a false negative.... please i need your help i just wanted to forget about HIV, and move on... also my doctor thinks im over reacting. Any advice would be much appreciated thank you for your time, knowledge, and most of all your consideration....

Your doctor is right, you are over-reacting.

Your six month test following the unprotected vaginal sex is conclusive. You do not have HIV. You needn't have waited 6 months, 3 months is the official window period for HIV antibody testing. None of the other things you raise are risks for HIV infection; neither the oral sex nor the ear-ring cleaning thing.

Please take the time to read our Welcome Thread and follow the links to our Lessons to learn more about how HIV is and is not transmitted.

One other thing, I am not a saint. I am a profoundly evil person who would cheerfully rob your grave.

Best wishes,

MtD

I agree with Matty, you are overreacting. The earring thing did not put you at any risk of hiv infection. You got tested 6 months after unprotected sex and negative result is correct(according to CDC guidelines result of the  hiv test made at least three months  after your last possible exposure to the virus is reliable.

going,

The only risk you report is the unprotected intercourse. Neither going down on a woman nor getting a blowjob are risks.

And the earring thing? No way. Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse. Use condoms for intercourse and you'll protect your negative hiv status.

As you have been told, you've already tested hiv negative for your one true risk. You ARE hiv negative.

Ok I know you our all going to think that I am nutz but here it goes well I was suffering due to hiv anxiety even after I talked to you guys last so I decided to get another hiv blood test on dec 17 because i wanted to have a good christmas. well my only risk were unprotected vaginal (10 months from this test) and unprotected oral from a girl(4 months from this test) i know from what you guys state that 12 or 13 weeks is 100% conclusive but my doctor came up with this monkey science of 9 months is conclusive but yet he says that oral is no risk, i couldn't help but laugh and at the same time get worried. also would mono effect the test results in any way, your advice would mean alot to me, thanks for all you guys do......

Goin,

Your doctor may have been right about you over-reacting, but he's flat out wrong about HIV.

The window period is three months. Not 6, not 9, not anything else. Three months. Mono will not affect the validity of your test results.

You are HIV negative.

I promise.

So im back.. well ive been seeing this new girl who im dating, and we decided to have unprotected sex, well ive been tested and so has she but here is the kicker, she had cervical cancer like a year ago she beat the cancer with chemo and radiation, anyway she has tested for hiv and all other std's since her cancer every month and apparently she hasn't had unprotected sex with anyone for like 6 months or so. She also told me about this whole cancer thing after we had unprotected sex, and after learning so much valuable information from this website I was just wondering is her test results conclusive considering she had cancer or should I test in this circumstance. Also as a side note her doctor which is a specialist with std's said that 6 weeks is 100% conclusive in terms of hiv. Thanks for your replies ahead of time and keep up all the good work that you are doing here.

As long as she tested negative at 6 months then her result would still be a valid negative one.

However, I can't help wondering if you two are in a securely monogamous relationship. Unless you are you should still be using condoms for intercourse.

It's true that all but a very small number of those who are going to seroconvert will have done so by 6 weeks. The remaining weeks to 13 are just to make sure for the rest.

thanks andy for you advice, we are in a monagomous relationship now im not with anyone nor is she but from everything that i have learned from this site, when the whole cancer thing came up i knew that chemo and radiation effect the validity of a hiv test and i dont want to put myself at risk, her doctor seems very intelligent and watchs over her very well so thanks again for your advice it was much appreciated..

one last question and im gone lol... i talked to my gf last night and she said that when she goes in every month to get her pap done the doctor takes something from the cervix and tests her for abnormal cancer cells and also all stds including hiv and she usually knows right there if she has anything, is that possible with hiv and other stds, i might need a womens perspective on this like ann's just wondering thanks again guys... have a good weekend

She doesn't get an HIV test via a PAP smear.

going,

Hiv tests are not preformed via the vagina/cervix. They are either a blood test or an oral swab.

sorry i used the wrong terminology. she doesn't get a cotton swab pap she actually has two biopsy done every month, one is to look for cancer cells and the other detects any kind of bacteria and or viruses, like stds or hiv or hpv.

No they do look for HIV in that manner. The only way some was is tested for HIV is oral, and blood tests.

going,

Maybe your gf is just assuming she's being tested for hiv. What you describe is NOT how hiv testing is performed. One way to find out is if she has to sign a release form each time - because that is what has to happen before hiv testing can take place.

The bottom line here is - if you have doubts about the hiv status of either of you, go test together and find out once and for all. All the speculation in the world won't tell you your hiv status - only testing will.

One last question i swear, ok i found out that i wasn't listening to my gf and she does get a blood test for std's and hiv every month, with that said she hasn't done anything with anyone for two and half months and she tested negative after that incident. now my question is this does a person only have to wait 6 months while on chemo or is that for the rest of there life, cause she hasn't had chemo for 2 years i just want to put this to rest because its putting alot of stress on me and our relationship i spoke to a friend of mine who is a doc and said that my chance of actually getting hiv are very very very small with the lifestyle i lead, your input like always would be extremely appreciated. In advance thanks you again......

Something doesn't add up here. If you two are a couple why is she getting tested every month? Unless you are not monogamous in which case that's ok, except everytime you have vaginal or anal intercourse, with her or anyone else for that matter, you need to be wearing a latex condom. No exceptions.

If she had chemo more than six months ago it would not be affecting the reliability of her test results.

I get your clarification. Have you both tested negative at 13 weeks after the most recent unprotected incident? Because that's what's necessary in order to dispense with using condoms.

If you two are in a securely monogamous relationship, I don't understand why she would be having the need to get tested every month. Am I missing something here?

she use to get tested every month for her own personal benefit i guess she has been worried about diseases every since she got cancer so i guess thats why, its been two and a half months since her last unprotected encounter and most of her sexual lifestyle has been unprotected due to the fact that she is allergic to latex, hence why she got cervical cancer in the first place, and for me i haven't had any unprotected sex for a year and was tested in december so im good. she is getting one more test this month and then she is past the three month mark since her last unprotected incident. so i guess i will wait for that test result and then all should be well. thanks.

going,

You should be able to answer your own question by now. The window period is three months so yes, of course you're "in the clear" as far as hiv is concerned. Just make sure either of you are using condoms if you have intercourse outside your relationship. You say your girlfriend is allergic to latex, but polyurethane condoms also prevent hiv infection. Read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can both learn more about condoms.
