Hi edwardyap, the best hospital in Malaysia currently is Hospital Sungai Buloh. Best as in affordable and pretty good service. I do my check ups there. You can also try UMMC, University Malaya Medical Centre. They are also pretty good but could be pricey. I am not sure if you could get Atripla here, I am currently on tenvir-em and stocrin which is like Atripla, but a single tablet am not sure. The first line medication for Malaysians are free too.

Edward, if you are not a Malay national (ie foreigner) and you require to be discreet about ur poz status, (if u are in fact poz and are based in Spore or KL), it may be best to jump on a quick flight to Bangkok which is another option to KL and JB.

There are many reasons to fly under the radar including avoiding risk of deportation especially if ur Spore based.

The Thais are very progressive and have the best care for HIV in SEA and care and treatment is first class and is relatively inexpensive for foreigners. Plus the night life is a bonus too- really fun!  ;)

Good luck

Hi Edward,

Welcome to the forums. Yes in addition to what sumboy has already said, if you need help about what services are available to you in Malaysia, I can put you in contact with Pink Triangle Foundation in KL and they'll get you sorted. Send me a PM. Don't worry about the meds, generic medicine is like pirated Windows. Exact same copy, but someone else makes it.

Also, before you start buying meds and (seemingly) self-medicate, please tell us what your doctor arrangements are like. Are you regularly seeing a doctor in a clinic in Singapore? Or a hospital in Malaysia?

Hello!
I would need information on the subject of medication. I am a foreigner working in Malaysia and my partner has just joined me here. He is HIV positive, healthy, and has been following his treatment for 4 years now in our home country.
How and what can he do here to get his medication? (money is not a problem, our insurance covers it) Can we go to a hospital? Is it anonymous?
Thanks a lot everybody

Hi Flo, welcome to the forums.

You can find hiv/aids service organisations (ASOs) and clinics near you by using aidsmap.com's worldwide ASO database. I'm sure you'll find a phone number to connect you with someone who knows what's what and can direct you to the appropriate place.

You don't really have to do anything with the first three search boxes, just make sure you put your country in the fourth box at the bottom.

Good luck! :)

Undetectable does not mean HIV negative, it means that your virus is suppressed because you are adherent to your meds . If you stop the meds the virus will rebound and you also run the risk of becoming resistant to them .

There is no cure for HIV ... thought you knew that .

No. Only anti-retrovirals fight HIV.

Why don't you respond to people who attempt to get you to chat a bit?  You post 1 sentence questions and some of what you ask makes me worry a bit about your situation.

Edward, I've merged your two recent threads together as they're very closely related.

Undetectable in VL means HIV negative? Do i still need to take medicine?

Edward, have you actually tested hiv positive on an antibody test, verified with a Western Blot test? You have not told us anything about yourself - other than you've tested undetectable on a viral load test.

Viral load tests are not stand-alone diagnostic tests. They're mainly used to monitor patients with hiv. It really is not clear from your posting history if you are actually hiv positive on the antibody tests.

If you are actually hiv positive - verified with a positive Western Blot test - and you have an undetectable viral load without taking meds, then you might be an Elite Controller. When a person is an Elite Controller, their body can control the virus without the help of meds. This would mean that you would not need anti-hiv medicine.

Can natural foods like Garlic and other anti-HIV foods replace HIV medicine in long term? How long we can survive with these foods?

Absolutely NOT. If foods like garlic had any effect on hiv, do you really think people would be dying because they can't afford medicine, or would have died years ago before there even were effective meds? People were trying anything and everything pre-1996, to no avail.

The ONLY thing that is effective against hiv infection are antiretroviral drugs.

If you do not have a viral load, you do not need the meds.

Again, it's totally not clear whether or not you've actually tested hiv positive on an antibody test and had that verified with a Western Blot test. This is imperative.

You 'can' replace meds with anything you want but the outcome may not work in your favor.  I don't suggest you go that route.

By the way, what are anti-HIV foods?  Just curious..

Edward,

Again, please see a doctor. If going to Hospital Sungai Buloh is too difficult, please consider going to Bangkok for treatment. Do not try to obtain Atripla without prescription, and worse still do not try to take Atripla without knowing your VL or CD4.

I suggest you contact the PT Foundation. I know the guys there; some are HIV+ themselves too so no one will be telling any secrets. They are very supportive and will help you arrange doctor visits and etc.

I read somewhere recently that GARLIC counteracts with the HIV meds. Be careful with natural supplements. Best to discuss with your ID doc. There are many other immune boosting foods, fruits, veges, egg whites, etc. None of them are going to CURE us....

No it can not . If you have HIV and its progressed to where you need treatment only HAART (HIV drugs) will save your life .

Most of your post seem to be about the same ... questions about Atripla or if other natural remedies will impact HIV treatment . It will help you and us to answer your questions if you keep them in the same thread so there is no need to start a new thread every time you want to ask a similar question . Please post them in this thread so you can read all of your reply's in one place . Best .

side note : generic atripla now available at anonymous clinic - red cross bangkok.
you will need a prescription from a doctor outside though. best go with latest test results to a dr in one of the big hospitals and ask prescription.
