Title: April 7: VL 1.5 Million, last week VL 100,000.00...
Post by: AnotherHIV on June 11, 2008, 09:18:06 pm
I got a VL count of 1.5 million on a test made around my birthday. My CD4 was about 800. After that I have,00 had another 3 checks and the numbers came dawon as follows: 650,000VL and 675 CD4. Then 160,000VL and 600CD4, last week: 100,000 VL and 550CD4, 38% I do not what...
I have been doing excercise regularly since I learned "the news". I have not stopped my social life style which includes alcohol, cigarretes and coke. It is hard for me to change, but I think the numbers would have had progressed better if I was taking care of myself better, do you think?

The doctor told me that if after this test my VL wa snot under 100K I should consider to begin treatmet. But I think am hopeful that my next test in three weeks will be better.

Don't really know what questions to ask, I am concerned anut loss weight, what should I eat, weights or cardiobascular excercise? How can I avoid changes in my face adn body? etc...

Hi, well.. your CD4 is still good, though you have to plan some changes friend regarding food, alcohol, cigarrettes, etc ... how and when... depends on you.

I don't take particular care of myself, though i avoid too much alcohol and does not smoke. About weight, i haven't had much troubles with it, you can see it in my signature.

Take it slowly and plan for the future.

AnotherHIV -- Welcome!  I'm glad you found our forums.

As to your worries about face & body changes, I think you are referring to lipodystrophy, which usually only happens when people are taking HIV treatments, and the newer meds don't cause this problem nearly as much as the older meds.  So you have little to worry about since you are not on meds yet (and even when you do start, I doubt you'll need to worry about it).

Welcome to the forums, Another.

You don't give us a time-frame for your testing. It looks like you are dealing with a very new infection, as your numbers are totally consistent with the first few months to a year following seroconversion.

It can take a while for your body to adjust. You don't need to rush into meds and it's best to get several results - taken over a period of months, not weeks, to determine where your trend is going.

It will help your body to at least moderate your partying. Getting enough rest and eating right are important, two things which can be difficult to achieve when on a coke binge. Avoiding stress is also very important as stress is one of the worst things for us. It really plays havoc with the immune system. It's not just mental stress either - not getting enough sleep and having a crap diet are also very stressful for the body.
