Let's all say a Prayer for Capt. Carl
« on: June 26, 2011, 11:01:42 am »
I got this just yesterday form Carl's other-half Norm, here is the email he sent to Bob & I  so I will update all of you with his condition, I'm having a very hard time with this right now, so please bear with me :'(

Dennis/Bob,
This is a note to let you know that Carl is back in the hospital and not expected to live.  I apologize for the abruptness as at this point I am numb and not knowing how to cope with this.
They have taken him off nutritional IV and he isn't eating.  Has pneumonia, major swelling in the lower limbs and his cancer is taking over.
He is disoriented most of the time.
No idea how much time he has......if he can beat the pneumomia, I can bring him home and hospice can help me.  Otherwise?
take care you guys,
Norm

let's all hope he pulls thur this, and I wish him & Norm the very best  :-[

The last email I received from Carl discussed his condition, but I wasn't aware it was progressing so quickly.

I am sending energy to Carl for peace and energy for strength to Norm, who has been an incredible support for Carl throughout all of this.

This saddens me so greatly. I was just thinking of Carl this morning and checked his profile and saw it was active around 6 AM, though I knew his condition had worsened I took it to mean maybe he was on the mend and gaining some weight/strength back. It's so horrible to see someone go through so much.

Carl has suffered through so much, I just hope and pray that the suffering will end.

Sometimes I get really angry at the "higher power", this is one of those times.

I don't even know what to say.  So glad I got a chance to talk to the Cap the last time he was in the hospital.  It's just so sad.  I have a very saddened spirit at this moment. :'(

Carl has a generous spirit and goes out of his way evertime we have talked to let me know how much friendship and the words of support mean to him . My conversations with him have been few lately but I will continue to think about him today as well as the days to follow and know what a wonderful guy he is .

Thanks for posting this.  Carl and Norm will be in my thoughts.  This is just so overwhelmingly sad news.  He's been through so much, thinking of them both, through this difficult time.

The Captain is a sweet man.. it's hard to find someone who is ill and not feeling well in the hospital but can still manage to lift other spirits while talking to him.

I hope and pray that his passing is swift and as painless as possible. So many have suffered so much during their final days on Earth. Please don't let him suffer, and may he go peacefully as possible.
So sad...

Here's another Update on Capt. Carl.......Norm is  having to move Carl to Kasemann Pres Hospice as I cannot care for him at home.
I haven't told him yet and he's going to be pissed at me as he wants to die at home.  Probably move
him on Mon. or Tues.  they pretty well got the pneumonia under control but the cancer has taken over.
He is sedated most of the time.
appreciate your thoughts/support.
Norm

My last thought upon sleeping and my first upon waking.

What a good, true friend you've been for me, Captain Carl.

I have to agree. The last time I spoke with him we joked and laughed and for one moment ..I forgot where he was.

Carl, you are my hero.

Also my sympathies for Carl not to suffer.  Our forums have grown so much over the years, good and bad news both,  and I have not gotten to know everyone as much as I would have liked.  But Carl was a fine contributor here and was loved by many of our members.   Thinking of Carl and Norm tonight.

Dennis / anyone else?

Have you heard anything else from Norm?   Anxious to hear how Carl is doing....
