Official Caught Using Escort Service Demanded Anti-Prostitution ‘Loyalty Oaths’
Former U.S. AID director Randall Tobias, who resigned yesterday upon admitting that he frequented a Washington escort service, oversaw a controversial policy advocated by the religious right that required any US-based group receiving anti-AIDS funds to take an anti-prostitution “loyalty oath.”
Aid groups bitterly opposed the policy, charging that it “was so broad — and applied even to their private funds — that it would obstruct their outreach to sex workers who are at high risk of transmitting the AIDS virus.” But President Bush wouldn’t budge. He signed a 2003 National Security Presidential Directive saying prostitution “and related activities” were “inherently harmful and dehumanizing.”
Several groups and countries had their funding cut due to the policy. Brazil lost $40 million for “one of its most successful anti-AIDS strategies, persuading sex workers to use condoms or other measures to stop spreading the disease.”
During an “Ask the White House” online chat in 2004, Tobias defended the policy, saying the U.S. was “partnering with communities” to begin “fighting sex trafficking and prostitution, while still serving victims of these activities.” Tobias added that he was overseeing several “highly successful” relationship programs “aimed at men and boys to help them develop healthy relationships with women.”
A truly inspired idea, having someone who pays for “gals come over to the condo to give me a massage” run programs on developing “healthy relationships with women.”

I am no Bush fan, but I do not think we should give the Islamic radicals any information at all, they are a different issue than Kosovo was.
So long as there is one \"devout\" Islamic in the world there will be no peace. Islam tells their followers to hate and to kill and to steal from non-Islamics is a virtue, and that they should kill all the jews, then all the christians, then all the others that will not convert, then all the Islamics that do not believe exactly every detail same as they, then everyone that does believe the same but is not as militant as they.
So long as there are two people in the world and one is a Muslim, there will be no peace.

I appreciate the heads up, Ann.
I personally don't subscribe to any particular faith, but I am often perplexed and saddened by people who seem to believe the only answer to terrorism is to rid the world of all Muslims (ignoring of course the fact that Timothy McVeigh wasn't a Muslim nor were the members of IRA, nor was that guy who bombing gay bars and women's clinics in America).
And I often wonder how the Muslims who are serving in the US and UK military feel to hear such hateful things.
I really wish people would learn to make distinctions between radical/violent extremist groups and the broader groups that are really not much different than everyone else.

Well, if my memory serves me correctly, fundamentalist upbringings indoctrinate the young to view Muslims as worshippers of SATAN. In fact, most are totally clueless that the Virgin Mary is mentioned more in the Koran than in the Bible... in fact my father wasn't even aware that Islam was related to Christianity after 9/11. I was kind of aghast.
Now, since 9/11 most people are much more familiar with Islam and its basic history, but they mostly still think they're spawn of the Devil, etc. Then again many Muslims see Christians as garden variety heretics so whatever.

I have a few close friends who are Muslim and they're some of the nicest people I've ever met. I also had a friend who was Muslim die of AIDS and I went to his funeral. They were all very kind people. The ones who are strapping bombs to themselves are a MINORITY.

It is so easy to judge people by labels and make assumptions about them, but that's the approach of the simpleminded. It's a common practice for people to justify their hatred for others on religious terms, but that isn't something that is the sole province of any particular religion. In my area of the United States there are an uncommon number of churches that call themselves Christians who preach white supremacy. They use the bible to justify their hatred of people of color. It doesn't necessarily follow that my best friend, who is a Christian, shares in those repulsive hatreds.
If Muslims really wanted nothing more than to destroy everyone else in the world that didn't share their faith, you'd think there would be a hell of a lot more violence considering there are over 1.2 BILLION Muslims.

I'm sure that a lot of them in the US are in sleeper cells, that are waiting for the opportunity to strike and do the most damage they think they can get away with, it's a little bit harder for them to operate in the open in a civilized country, but I'm sure they're still up to no good, I'm also sure that law enforcement has uncovered a lot of what they were planning and stopped it before they got a chance.
As far as the unorganized violence, you don't start a war just to piss off your neighbors, there have to be attainable objectives, any attack has to be part of a bigger operation.
