Counseling for new diagnoses

Hi, I'm not sure where I should post this question, but I'm interested in volunteering for counseling or support services for people newly diagnosed as HIV positive. I was diagnosed 2 years ago last month and have gotten my numbers up, and turned my health/life around. I now feel I'm at a point that I'd like to help others through the beginning stages of their diagnosis. Does anyone have any pointers as to how I might go about this? Thanks in advance for any input!

I would have thought that the obvious place to enquire would be at any STI screening centre.  I never used a councillor myself but I know that our clinic has both paid professional and volunteer councillors. They have "just diagnosed" courses, for individuals and groups; Infact I almost signed up for one recently- fearing I'd missed something but, alas, infected ten years ago, and, diagnosed nine- a beginners course didn't seem at all  right.

Counseling is a profession for some quite good reasons.
I'm a peer group leader in my home-town, but there are a mass of conversations that can come up in the group process that I am not trained to take on. I'm on a tight script to shut certain conversations down and refer to professionals.

There are some buddy programs, Shanti in SF and Ankali in Sydney being ones I know of, but these are very different from counseling.
