Am I overreacting
« on: January 16, 2024, 05:34:36 pm »
I had sex with a sex worker from Venezuela, fully protected with a condom but later that night i noticed I had jock itch in between my legs, reddish skin and super small skin abrasions (not bleeding) or anything like that just itch. Later 5 days I had a sore throat that lasted 2 days so I suspect the possibility of vaginal fluid (since it is a body fluid) entered those skin abrasions and decided to test for HIV RNA NAT after 2 week as they can detect the virus as early as 9 days in the US, test results came back negative (not detected) which gave me peace of mind.
But now the anxiety came back as I got some red small spots on my foot that went away, also a stye in my eyelid and noticed I have lost some weight (nothing drastic maybe 2-3 lbs maybe because of anxiety/stress)hair has been falling but that has happened before the incident.
I have also read that hiv does not survive when it comes to contact with air but cant seem to find a specific answer as some websites says minutes others say hours.
I am afraid as I just started a new relationship with a girlfriend.
It has been 2 months since the incident.
Am I overreacting?
Thank for the time.

Hiya,

Jock itch and skin abrasions aren't a route for you to acquire HIV. The vaginal fluid you are concerned about is the wrong type of vaginal fluid, not to mention exposure outside of the confines of the human body.

Oh, it will survive; the issue is whether it remains infectious. Sexually, HIV is only ever acquired inside the confines of the human body, like during condomless intercourse.

Great, HIV can't be transmitted through an intact latex or polyurethane condom. Unless a condom obviously fails during intercourse, there is no reason to be stressing or testing for HIV outside the standard yearly HIV screening.

Being a sex worker or from Venezuela doesn't change that.

decided to test for HIV RNA NAT after 2 week

I would not have recommended that if you had had exposure, but since you didn't, it's fine; a bit of a waste.

Congrats! Make sure to use condoms, no exceptions, and consider PrEP. Get an STI and HIV screening out of routine at least yearly.

Here's what you need to know to reduce your HIV risks:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier-acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms; testing is the only way to know.

Kind regards

Jim

Thanks for replying Jim,

What do you mean vaginal fluid is not hiv transmissible, every place states this as a body fluid that contains hiv. I cant find any article or study stating otherwise

Also should i worry about these symptoms i have explained

I have my yearly health checkup next month I believe, how confident should I be about testing knowing I tested negative for hiv rna nat test and the information given.

I never said that.  >:(

You are concerned with jock itch that isn't a route to start with, and the HIV risk ends with that; in addition, any vaginal fluids leaking down your legs to be in contact with the jock itch would be the wrong type of vaginal fluids, as the fluids that are a concern, are not the lubricating fluids a woman produces when stimulated or excited but the fluids near the cervix much deeper, the end of the vaginal tract. They would also be exposed to the environment before reaching your jock itch that, again, isn't a route.

Lack of route, exposure, and any of the conditions needed.

Don't ask again about this.

Your symptoms are not HIV related to activities mentioned here with the sex worker, and as for your next HIV screening, I can't tell you what the results will be as I don't know your full sexual history.

(Edit for spelling)

My last question would be, is there a study that says women lubricating vaginal fluid is not infectious and the fluid deep down the cervix is.

Thanks for the replying again did not mean to upset. :-\

Yes, to answer your last question. I don't make this shit up as I go after 25 years.

Now, use condoms, no exceptions, and consider PrEP. As you are sexually active, get an STI & HIV screening at least yearly, and please don't post again about this. You already ignored my warning once, do it again, and it will result in a ban.
