ok, so i thought about it while taking a shower, and the reason why i felt that way was because in last night's episode those two doctors reached their 40's b/day, and consequently , the show was about aging, and how people try to get rid of their appearance of aging and how being able to age gracefully is a gift.

i know that hiv poz people can grow old, and are expected to live bit shorter than normal length of life, but what about being able to age "gracefully"? we just don't have that kind of privilege and it sounds dumb when we actually ask for such thing.

the key to those hiv meds we take is that they work by blocking or killing replication of our mitochondria cells, thus supposedly creating all sorts of problems such as wasting, neuropathy, unnatural fat accumulation and speedy aging which all happen when healthy replication of cells do not occur.

before, i really wanted to live to 100, read and see as much as i can, and age extremely gracefully, and now, because i don't have that kind of goal, i sometimes feel angry, rebellious and somewhat have that "fuck you all" kinda attitude.

anyone else feel that way?

Or maybe it's God's way of slowing down the spread of aids...see if a person ages faster, then their sex drive slows down, and if it speeds up a person looking ugly then people won't want to have sex with that person and it will relieve the emotional burden of deciding whether to disclose or not and old people have more aches and pains so a person will think it is natural because of aging even if they are only forty...see God knows what he is doing.

I dont know what to make of this thread.  At 63 I still like to think that there are guys who would find me attractive.  I mean suppose I was single....I would expect to date and find a mate. If a little nip and tuck were necessary, so be it.  Or did I miss something?  I have not seen the TV show and do not expect to see it.

I would have to say that growing old gracefully has nothing whatsoever to do with physical aging. I have seen old people in perfect health who were unpleasant miserable bastards, and I have seen the elderly who have nothing but difficulties with their old age continue to see the brighter side, and to not let it get them down. Graceful aging is something that is more than the aging of the body. Look at it this way, you can go to the clinic and see people with AIDS who are still positive about their lives, and in the same visit also see people who are merely HIV positive and asymptomatic to boot that are just full of anger and negativity. Grace is a state of mind, not a physical condition.

Capt.Carl (who wants to grow old disgracefully)

   Like the song says:
I'll spit on floors, and do more drugs
Break every rule, get drunk on love
Wear next to nothing in the pouring rain
Be a bad example, and do it all again
I'll be uncareful, and cause such scenes
And I'll never talk of used to Be's
Tattoo my face, I won't complain
                              Be a dancing queen
                              I'm growing old disgracefully....
The only thing I can do straight is shoot..

Meds for years and I am still a stunner...at least my magic mirror says so. Have you thought of doing some volunteer work, a hobby, or maybe a makeover? Debbie, you can be a real downer.

Can I be the contrary voice and say that lipo has aged me quickly in the past 7 years?  I know this will sow the fear of God in the thread's originator but I'm just being honest.  If I can't be honest on here, then I can't heal myself.

For me...the lipo has just given me the extended belly. I look like I'm carrying twins. I personally hate the way I look, but the nip/tuck guys can't help with this, because it's that inside fat. I'm not much on dieting as I subsist on what I get from the food bank. Diet food it is not. I acquired a home gym and have started working out. I hope that the change in meds (recently changed from Keletra / Trizivir to Atripla) will help with this. At least my Triglycerides level has been cut in half, and the LDL dropped 60 points. I also dropped 2 pounds.

If you were single and I were single I'd go out with you.  ;)

I'm not sure what growing old gracefully means. I'm determined to do the best I can with what I've got. I'm also not afraid to do things that other people would find embarrassingly age inappropriate, such as read comic books or swing on monkey bars. I try to never let looking foolish get in the way of having fun.

I saw those episodes over the weekend. I can't wait for the new season, I think it starts in August, not sure. I really don't concern myself with aging. It happens, why fight it? I guess if you got the money for plastic surgery most would get a nip or tuck here and there. But not me, I always thought with age comes wisdom..hmmm, honestly, I have a few grays now but can't wait for it all to turn gray. I think I will look sexy and distinguished, especially with a silver rinse....*snaps fingers*...Ladies and Gents, I will still be the shiznit!!!!!

I found last night's rerun fascinating and very refreshing in its portrayer of people affected with hiv/aids.

There were two characters on last night's episode who were hiv poz. One was Troy's ambitious slutty bitch from hell mild femme fetal sort of ex wife who goes around giving blow jobs for favors, and eventually later in the season ends up having a black kid who she somehow convinces troy that its his kids and the other was a gay guy who was suffering from lipoatrophy on his face and wanted to get his face filled to get his life back.

The way these two people were portrayed was probably the best and most accurate description of what i believe is one aspect of life which  hiv poz / aids people go through. One character 's tragic outcome of the medicine, but getting help and going on with his life balancing out the other's i am hiv poz, but still gonna live strong and willfully. There was no fear mongering, no stereotyping and no special treatment. Hiv poz people on that episode were deeply raptured in the same pain of superficial post modern world as anyone else on that show such as Troy or that old grandma who wanted a face lift when she really needed was a feeding tube instead.

This episode made me think of all that nonsense of CSI where their whole take hiv/aids was not only inaccurate to my knowledge, but ridiculous and bordering on fear mongering.

Gay directors RULE
