Title: chic pea salad
Post by: lucas clay on July 13, 2007, 11:08:22 am
1 can chic peas
i can corn
1 can diced tomato's
1 can black olives (sliced)
6 oz. feta cheese
drain the juice out of everything.pitch it into a bowl and mix it up.prep time about 3 minutes.
the dressing for this? you don't need any. delightfull on a warm day.
i picked up the crumbled feta cheese as Lucas is too lazy to crumble it himself, and it will make your hands stink.

yeah doesn't it sound good? the first time i tried feta i thought it was really strong. i haven't tried it again since. so if i  personally were to  try the recipe i would use 2 oz of feta instead of 6

haaa chic peas yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

But it's even better if you buy them dry, cook them (it's difficult to find the right time so they're not too soft and not too hard, so you have to taste often), then put them in the fridge for your salad. Or you can make a chic pea puree, which is something that makes me go on my knees...

Sounds tasty. Aren't chick peas also known as soy beans? Or am I thinking of something else?

Another great recipe with chick peas: Hummus bi Tahina

100 g chick peas (soaked)
salt
juice of 2 lemons
2 garlic cloves
4 table spoons olive oil
150 ml tahina paste (= mushed sesame seeds)
black olives

- cook chick peas in salty water until soft (1.5-2 hrs)
- put in a sieve, collect the cooking juice
- put peas in a blender
- add 150 ml of cooking juice
- add lemon juice, garlic, olive oil
- blend well
- add tahina paste in portions, put the paste back to bottom of the blender
- blend some more
- if hummus gets too thick, add more cooking juice
- spice up with salt, pepper and chili
- put hummus in a bowl and sprinkle with more olive oil
- serve with black olives and warm pita bread

I love chick peas...YUMMMY

I like Calamata olives or roasted red peppers in the hummus it is delish!

I am of Spanish decent and we eat a lot of Garbanzo.  I love to make a stew with it, lots of garlic, onions, chorizo or a nice Merguez sausage, potato, tomato, saffron, zucchini, yellow squash and anything your heart feels like.  Serve atop Couscous.

garbanzos are yellow and they look like rocks with a weird point on the end. soybeans are light green with smooth skin
