Questions about my HIV test and results
« on: November 30, 2012, 10:09:39 am »
I got my blood test results back and it says "non reactive" under the test " HIV 1/2 screen RFLX WB". Is that a negative result?
Also the test was done 157 days after possible exposure, just over 5 months and just over 22 weeks. Are these results conclusive or should I have another test done in 3 weeks which would be the 6 month mark?
I guess I'm paranoid because I had a lot of symptoms early on. Literally 2-3 days after exposure I had flu like symptoms including cold sweats, fever, swollen glands but I have been told that may of been caused by anxiety since I had not told my wife yet of the situation. Please don't judge me.
At about the 3 month mark I had an outbreak of bumps and acne on my chest. I do occcassionaly have small acne outbreaks on my shoulders, chest and back but this one was much worse than others so am concerned about that.
My wife and I are building our marriage back. I know it's cliche but this was a one time thing that happened on a business trip , I didn't even know the woman. My wife and I have been going to counseling for 4 months and are just looking to move on or move foward with treatment if need be. I just need to know.
Thanks and appreciate any information.

DT,

The window period for conclusive hiv testing is three months, not six months. It's been three months for years now.

You are conclusively hiv negative and do not need further testing over this incident. Move on with your life.

If this type of thing ever comes up again - use a condom and you won't have this hiv worry. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!!!

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

I appreciate the responses, that puts me a little more at ease.
I guess my question is now, if HIV negative why the symptoms?
Was it anxiety?
I got tested for all STD about 2 weeks after the incident and all were negative and now I have a negative HIV result 5 months after.
Like I said just wanting to move on and make sure I have no STD so that I know my wife and I are safe.
Thanks .

If you are concerned about your symptoms work with your doctor, they have nothing to do with HIV.
